Actually, I want to get rid of the menu from the taskbar itself and apparently the only way to do so is to have only one keyboard layout installed on my PC.P.S. I can't upload an image of it for some reason here. The upload failed even after trying multiple tries after refreshing the page. I am so irritated with Microsoft rn.. It is the switch input methods menu on the taskbar. I have only one language installed under preferred languages in the Language and Region setting on the settings app. I even ran the Get-WinUserLanguageList command and only one language is listed. For some reason,

    :)

How to get rid of additional input methods (keyboard layouts)

    Hello,

I have several keyboard layouts between which I can switch with WindowsKey + space-bar.

They show up as well in the notification area of the taskbar.

I do not need them; I have only one keyboard with only one layout, and even if I may type in another language at times, I won't change the keyboard layout.

This not only takes room in the notification area. It also leads to accidental change of keyboard layout, which is annoying.

How can I get rid of the additional keyboard layouts, while still keeping Windows aware of other language, so that it may for example spell check in several languages? Hopefully Windows is not assuming that if I use several languages then I must have several keyboards? If someone uses two languages with Latin alphabet, my guess is that they will never change keyboard layout.

How to get rid of additional input methods (keyboard layouts)

    Hi again,

I'm afraid these steps don't make sense. Perhaps you read what I wrote a bit too fast.

Still, I was humble and gave it a try, so here is what happens with your steps:

    - I remove the French language.

    - I don't need to add the French (actually Swiss French, this is my precise layout as I said) to English language because it's already there (as I said).

    - I can't remove the English keyboard layout from English language as it's not there (as I said).

After these steps I still have the two layouts in the tray and the random layout switches when Windows thinks it's a good idea to switch (it is NEVER a good idea since I only have ONE keyboard on my laptop, as, I guess, almost everybody!).

The only difference is that I don't have the French module anymore, which means I won't be able to get French spell-check and such, which can't work since I write in French all the time. So nothing was gained but I lost an essential feature.

  4. I can't remove additional keyboard layouts from the switch input method menu on the taskbar.

    Cannot remove keyboard layouts

The system language is English (United States) with one keyboard layout US (QWERTY). I have configured another layout Hungarian-101 (QWERTY). But for some reason 2 other keyboard layouts keeps popping up in my input method list on the system tray: ENG UK:
English (United Kingdom) - United Kingdom keyboard; and ENG US: English (United Kingdom) - US Keyboard.

These last 2 input methods are unwanted. I did not configure them and I they cannot be found in the Settings > Region & language menu.

I can remove them temporary by:

    1. Add English (United Kingdom) language to the system

    2. Set English (United Kingdom) as default

    3. Removing the English (United States) language

    4. Add English (United States) language again

    5. Add US English keyboard layout to English (United States)

    6. Remove English UK keyboard layout from English (United States) language

    7. Set the English (United States) as default again

    8. Remove the English (United Kingdom) language

At this point the system language settings are back where they were before, except now there are only the two configured input methods on the system tray: ENG: English (United States) - US Keyboard; and HUN: Hungarian - Hungarian 101 keyboard.

After restart all the unwanted keyboard layouts are back.
