  1. I can't run anything that requires me to be in admin mode, not even factory reset.

So I bought a laptop about two years ago. I'm a software developer and I'd use it always, until I got to try Linux and made my developer life easier. I ended up deciding on making it dual boot and after some time I decided to factory reset the windows partition so i could use it for gaming and personal stuff (and keeping everything work-related on Linux).

I did that, but then saw that I couldn't open anything as administrator. It told me that a connected device was failing, but it only happened with things that needed administrator privileges. I installed chrome without any issues, but the steam .exe crashed Everytime it opened saying that a device wasn't working correctly.

I tried with the command prompt but couldn't do anything without administrator privileges (and it also crashed when trying to open). I tried booting up with safe mode, but the dual boot won't let me do that (I try to restart in recovery mode and it restarts as regular windows). And I've tried to reset to factory settings but it stops at about 6% and tells me there was a fatal error and it just restarts and tells me it couldn't reset correctly.

I already have my CD Key at hand so I guess I could do a fresh reinstall, but I wanted to know if there was anything else I could try? There is no error code, the error title is the .exe file's direction and it just says

File's location (EG: C\Users\DukeVonC\Desktop\SteamSetup.exe) One of the connected devices is not working properly

    Hi Adam,

Thank you for posting in Community.

We understand your concern and we will provide the assistance required to help you resolve the issue.

Before we proceed, I would like you to provide the information stated below:

Which OS is currently installed or returned to after Factory Settings?

As per the information that you have provided, I would suggest that you perform the steps mentioned below:

Step 1: Follow the steps to enable Built-in Administrator account:

    • If on Windows 7 press F8
upon restart after the manufacturers logo appears. If on Windows 8,8.1 press
Shift key and then Restart to access Safe Mode.
    • Then access command prompt (admin) and type:
      net user administrator /active:yes
(To enable Built –in Administrator account give the command Active: No).
    • Then press ENTER.

    Step 2: Administrator Account.

Log in through the in built admin account, create a new administrator account and check if you can log in. If you are able to log into the new account, deactivate the inbuilt admin account.

    Hope this information helps
