I have been using several applications such as MSI Afterburner, RyzenMaster, Spotify, etc in the past and now when I try to open these apps today, I'm met with a long loading time and then an error message which states "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."

I tried searching online for solutions and I found people trying things in 'gpedit.msc', or other stuff but to my horror, I can't even run those programs that can help to solve my issue. Task manager ain't working as well. Some articles suggested checking the admin permissions for those apps but when I did, all was fine?

Any suggestions for this issue? I'm really at a loss.

    :)

Why can't I use third-party applications to open certain files on Windows 10?

Why does Microsoft no longer allow users to use third-party applications on Windows 10? Recent Windows updates have trashed some of my file associations. When I restore them, they just get reset, and I receive a notification: "An App Default Was Reset"
    - "An app caused a problem with the default app setting for .xxx files so it was rest to [MS App]." I prefer to use some third party apps, rather than the defaults that Microsoft insists on. Why can't I keep using my apps in Windows 10?

    Hi Genie,

Basically, you can still use a third-party application though Windows 10 has a recommended/default apps to be used. For us to better assist you with this, we'd like to know the following:

    • Which build and version of Windows are you running on your computer?
    • Which update did you install?
    • What app(s) are you trying to use?

We're looking forward to your reply.

I can't seem to open/run some of my applications, be it by Windows or third party developers.

Why is there a marked difference in performance between first and third party applications?

    Hi,

Owned an HD7 for a couple of weeks now and have noticed that despite WP7 being nice and smooth when running first party applications, the performance of third party applications leaves much to be desired.

Case in point, take the official twitter client. You simply cant scroll a list of tweets without lag and having the images 'lazy load' as they come into view. Why can a device with a 1Ghz CPU and over half a gig of RAM not render a list smoothly?
This isn't specific to Twitter though. Every third party app I have tried suffers the same.

I have read that the first party applications are NOT written in Silverlight, where as everything else is.

Could someone from MS confirm that there is a difference in performance between apps developed in Silverlight and those that use the native libraries? I find the current level for performance to be unacceptable for a modern smartphone.
