I can't transfer files to Onedrive

I have just set up Onedrive and I am trying to understand how it works. Onedrive appears in File Explorer and I have opened Onedrive in IE 11. I click on Upload and I navigate to a single photograph that I want to upload. If I then click Open or attempt to Drag and Drop nothing happens. When I Drag and Drop the image moves but does not open in Onedrive. What am I doing wrong, any thoughts please? I want to send large photo files via email and Onedrive seemed to be the answer.

    :)

How Can I copy a file from my Windows Phone 8.1 OneDrive to a local folder ???

It works only with PDF, Office, pics, movies and music.

I can't open a file with different extensions.

Actually, the new Onedrive update solve partially my issues once some other apps can see Onedrive folders, but I still have some issues with other file types and also because my Box apps can't see Onedrive's folder. I need to transfer files from one to another.

    But, thanks anyway,

    Carlos

Cannot Delete a File in File Explorer

    Hello Once More,

These troublesome files are on my PC and not in my Onedrive local folder. I want to transfer all of my files into my local Onedrive folder so that they will upload into the Onedrive cloud so that I can access the files on another laptop overseas.

When I try to move my filing system to the local Onedrive folder I get an error message saying that the pathname/filename of a specific file is too long. So I tried to delete this file using File Explorer before I tried a further upload. Unfortunately, File
Explorer freezes and crashes and I am unable to delete the file. If I can't delete it, I cant move the rest of my files.

I am looking for a fix that will allow me to delete this file. This is not a Onedrive problem, it is a File Explorer problem.

    Thanks

I can't transfer files to Onedrive

Sorry, I can't replicate your problem. I have no trouble using File Explorer and IE with One Drive to drag and drop, coming or going. You might try running the system file checker to see if anything is amiss with your Windows files. Alternatively, you might try uninstalling and then reinstalling OneDrive.

To use SFC, open an administrative command prompt, then type SFC /scannow into the command line. You should see something like this:

If it completes with no errors, the fault probably lies with OneDrive, and that's when uninstall/reinstall may be helpful.
One more thing: I don't understand what connection you're contemplating between OneDrive and email. Can you please elaborate futher on what you want to do by using those two together?
    Thanks, and HTH,

Thank you EdTittel. I am new to Win 10 and Office 2016. I use Outlook and discovered this morning that Outlook 2016 does not handle large file size photos in the same way as Outlook 2007. I have assumed that I can include a link to Onedrive in an email that will enable a recipient to see my photographs in full resolution.

I now see that if I click Open in a picture file the image will upload but very slowly (a 3.5mb file). The file will still not drag and drop.

Onedrive comes with Win 10. Perhaps I should use Dropbox instead. Onedrive seems a bit complicated to me.

You seem to be doing this all wrong you have a folder on your hd called one drive you simple save your files there thats all there is to it it automatically then uploads it to the cloud so you can go on a phone tablet pc and if you have one drive installed it will apear on those devices as if by magic. Google drive works the same you dont need to go into IE to upload. You cant send links as no one else can see your drive but you do have an option to make a folder in 1drive or google drive visible for that purpose

I am very confused. If I open Onedrive in IE I have the option using Share to email a file to someone or add a link to an email. However I need to transfer the files to Onedrive either by drag and drop or cilicking on open in File Explorer. Clicking on open works but drag and drop doesn't. I have trawled through some tutorials and they all suggest that I should be able to drag and drop from file explorer.

I can't transfer files to Onedrive

I have now discovered that if I open Onedrive in Edge I can Drag and Drop files but not if I open Onedrive in IE.

I dont understand why your doing this instead of just saving/copying to the ondrive folder on your pc? Doing your way you doing it twice as if you upload via IE then it will get download automatically to the folder on your HD

Because I want to email large files or provide a link in an email to my files and it seems that in order to do that I have to use IE. Also something isn't working on a new computer that should work.

I can't transfer files to Onedrive

I contacted Onedrive support about this and their "Escalation Team" came to the conclusion that drag and drop was designed for Edge or Chrome and I shouldn't expect it to work in IE. I would be interested to know if anyone else can make this work in IE because EdTittel doesn't seem to have a problem.

Just double-checked, and I am able to drag a file from File Explorer (from a random drive, any drive) into the OneDrive root, or other folderss inside the root, where OneDrive is open in IE 11. Can't go the other way, but I can upload.

Thank you EdTittel. I think I have been making a mistake here. If I open Onedrive in IE and then open File Explorer in a separate window I can drag and drop. If I open a document using the Upload link I cannot drag and drop, although this method does work in Edge. I have been watching this short tutorial and got confused: https://support.office.com/en-us/art...rs=en-US&ad=US

I assumed that I could drag and drop using the upload link in IE. Anyway thanks for your help but I still think that the tutorial is a bit confusing.
