I changed my motherboard recently, and since then I've had issues with windows. Just randomly throughout the day it deactivates and then radnomly activates again, sometimes it activates on the same day again, and sometimes the next day. Troubleshooting it through settings, when trying to reactivate it, doesn't do anything, even when clicking "I changed hardware on this device recently" and I select my desktop It still shows up as an option, it just say "Can't activate windows right now, please try again later". I'm on Windows 10 Pro. I've included the screenshot of what comes up when enterin

  2. win 10 motherboard change, reactivating windows

    Hi Famie,

If you are planning to change your motherboard, you will still be able to activate your Windows 10. In Windows 10 version 1607, there is a feature that you can link your Microsoft account to Windows 10 digital license on your device.
This can help you reactivate Windows using the Activation troubleshooter if you make a significant hardware change later, such as replacing the motherboard.

That being said, we suggest that you follow the steps given on this article
to reactivate your Windows 10 after a hardware change.

Let us know if you need further assistance.

If you think this was useful, do not hesitate to "mark it as an answer" to help those are facing the same problem.

Upgraded motherboard. Reactivated. Now deactivated again???

I upgraded my motherboard (and CPU). It's giving me the "We can't activate Windows on this device" issue.

Did the whole troubleshooting, "I changed hardware on this device recently". Then took a while since it kept giving me the "We can't reactivate Windows as our servers aren't available right now" but eventually got through and let me choose the PC. Then it was fine.

Restarted my PC to update some apps, then it's again saying "We can't activate Windows on this device issue" ...and again with the server issues.

    Why did it deactivate again???

UPDATE: Finally got to the Reactive Windows screen but my PC isn't on the list. If I do the "see other devices linked to your Microsoft account", my PC shows up there under the "Windows isn't activated"

    WTH...

I changed motherboards and my windows keeps deactivating and reactivating?

Unable to reactivate Windows after changing Motherboard

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand that after changing the Motherboard you are unable to activate Windows. I’ll help you with the issue.

    However, please let us know:

    • What is the error message you receive when you try to activate Windows?
    • Did Windows 10 come preinstalled on your computer?
    • Were you using a Microsoft account to login to the computer?

Ideally, if Windows 10 comes preinstalled on the computer, the Product key is embedded in the Motherboard. In case Windows is reinstalled on the computer, it should get activated automatically. However, if any hardware changes (such as Motherboard
or hard drive) is done on the computer, Windows will not be able to identify the license.

You may want to refer the troubleshooting steps mentioned in the article
