  1. I changed my Admin name and now I don't have access to any of my files or other functions...

    Hey all,

I tried posting this on r/techsupport but for some reason it will not let me even request to post?

I hope this is acceptable to post here because I really need help.

Today I was bored and figured I'd change my Administration name to my nickname instead of my formal name because why not? I had no idea the problems it would cause.

I did the following in order to change my admin name:

    1. Press the Windows key and R simultaneously on your keyboard. ...
    2. Type netplwiz in the Run command tool.
    3. Choose the account you would like to rename.
    4. Then click Properties.
    5. Type a new username in the box under the General tab.
    6. Click OK.

Now I have no access to my files. I cannot even use control panel or adjust the volume settings on my computer!

"No mapping between account names and security IDs was done." - is the error message I receive when I try to access a file.

If I follow the first two steps again (listed above) that I initially used to change my name, no accounts are listed at all anymore, not even the new name I chose.

Does anyone know what I can do? Please advise, I am very bad with this kind of thing and was in no way prepared for this happen just by changing my name.

Thank you in advance to anyone who can help me.

  2. My ID Is An Admin, But I cannot perform Admin functions

    Hi Michael,

I realize that you are unable to perform some admin functions on the pc even though you have logged in to the pc as admin. I will try to help you with this issue.

Please answer this question to get more clarity on this issue:

    • What is the error message you get while trying to perform admin functions?

If your current user account is not an admin account then using the built in admin account you can change the current user account into admin account. Press Windows key + X and click on Control Panel. Click on User account to see if your user account
is set as admin or standard.

An administrator account is a user account that lets you make changes that will affect other users. Administrators can change security settings, install software and hardware, and access all files on the computer. Administrators can also make changes
    to other user accounts.

If your current user account is set as admin then follow these steps to disable the built in admin account.

Press Windows + X key together on your desktop screen.

    • Click on Command Prompt (admin) to open Command Prompt.

    • Type the following command and hit Enter:

    • net user administrator /active: no (Check for the spaces).

Once this is done the built in admin account is disabled.

Keep us informed to help you further.

    name changes??

If you desire a name change please do the following:

    • Ask yourself if you really need a name change.
    • Make sure you have a good reason.
    • Know what you want your new name to be before you request a name change.
    • Send Urlyin a PM containing a decent explanation of your reason as well as your desired name.
