Windows 10: I changed my Profile Path in registry, and now I can't login to my account

Hello,I tried to change the name of my User Profile because the name that was automatically chosen was partially cut off, I went to the registry and did everything it said to do from this tutorial https://www.makeuseof.com/windows-11-change-user-profile-folder-name/ in the second section where it tells how its done. I did everything up to step 8 where it tells me to rename the user profile using f2. I could not change the name, it wouldn't let me. So then I restarted my PC, put in the password to my account, but now I'm stuck in the "Preparing Windows" buffing screen. I had just gotten t

Cannot Login to Admin Account - Profile Cannot Be Loaded

After reading https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/...-error-message I looked in the registry at the ProfileImagePath values and only saw 'Alan' account that is the regular user. Strange that 'Bob' admin login that is displayed as login option at startup is not listed in ProfileImagePath.

 

Changing folder name in C:\Users while login in with microsoft account

To prevent this problem, first create a new local user account, login to the account and then switch it to Microsoft account. That way, your user profile folder will be correctly named. That's the easiest option.

Complicated way is to rename the existing user profile folder
from a 2nd administrator account, and change the old profile folder path references in the registry to the new folder name/path. This is a bit risky as it can break applications/settings/search etc.

I suggest you to enable the built-in Administrator account by following the steps below:

• Press Windows key + X and select Command Prompt (Admin).
• Type the below command line and press Enter.

net user administrator /active: yes

After the command line is complete, restart the system and login to the built-in Administrator account and do the necessary changes to your account. Again, restart your computer and login t your account and disable the built-in Administrator account by following
the steps below:

• Press Windows key + X and select Command Prompt (Admin).
• Type the below command line and press Enter.

net user administrator /active: no
