I changed number of cores in Msconfig and now my pc won't boot

    Hi Team,

I changed the number of cores on my cpu in my Msconfig after a stupid suggestion and now my pc will not start. It says automatic repair can't repair your pc and the only option I have is to go to advanced options. Can someone please help me with this, I presume it would be fixed through command prompt but I am not sure which commands to do! I have tried resetting, that will not work, and I am completely lost. Thank you very much I changed number of cores in Msconfig and now my pc won't boot :)

System config: Unable to change to higher number of CPU cores when booting up if choosing to boot with lower cores

    Hello.

    Thank you for the details.

I changed the number of processes myself. What I meant was that before I changed to just boot with 1 core, the drop down list shows the number from 1-8. But after booting up with it, the OS was really slow. I know that my CPU has 8 cores so I assumed I suppose to open MSConfig and revert the number of processes in the boot tab back to 8 so I did that, but this time the drop down list just showed 1 process. I don’t know if this is a bug but I hope you get the idea now.

You mentioned that Windows can get corrupted if I mess that setting so I ran every DISM command in order, then a sfc scan, restart my PC, and run a sfc one more time. All the commands found nothing so I think I’m good now.

Is it safe to change CPU core setting in msconfig on HP laptop?

Do not fiddle with 'Number of Cores' in msconfig, Windows knows which cores to engage in which order at boot time!

Set your power plan to 'High Performance', right click on the CPU graph and choose "Change graph to ► Logical processors" then all cores will be utilized 100% during use.
    Never mind boot time.
