Hello,Few days ago I wanted to change a few files of Minecraft. Then Windows said that I need administrator permission to perform this action, I was like "Okay" and watched YouTube how one guy changed ownership of disk C: to his own without any problem. Oh god, the problem starts here. I changed ownership of disk C: to Everyone. After reloading my laptop, it had black screen with cursor only, some programs were able to run with help of key bindings such as opening explorer, settings and etc. After few minutes black screen disappeared and everything seem to be fine but nah. Taskbar was not work

Changed Ownership of C:\ and Can't Fix

    Hi Greg,

Let's get this issue sorted. To better assist you with this concern, we would like to know the following information:

    • Which account is the new owner of the C drive?
    • Are you using an account with administrator rights?
    • Have you tried changing the ownership back to yourself?

In the meantime, let's try taking back the ownership by following the steps provided by
    BurrWalnut in the following thread:
Is there a way to take ownership of my C drive?

You may also perform a repair upgrade using a
    Creators Update ISO
file. This method can repair broken operating system files while preserving your files, settings and installed applications. For more information and steps on how to perform a repair upgrade, kindly refer to the wiki article created
by Andre Da Costa on the following link:
How to perform a repair upgrade using the Windows 10 ISO file
    .

Keep us updated on the status of the issue, and we will be glad to assist you further.

I Changed Ownership of Most of C: - Do I need immediate help?

The restrictions on access to the root of the system drive (normally C:\), is not something new with Windows 10 but was introduced with Windows 7 (or an update), to try and prevent the way that certain malware, (Rootkits), were running.

I agree it can be a PITA for those of us who were trained in a time before Malware. The fault has to be laid squarely at the feet of the scum that infest us with malware

Now for the post horse bolting advice *Wink

With complex setups it's good policy to make disk images to an external drive of the install of all applications at regular intervals, during the Install Process ...

    • Immediately after the install of the OS
    • After the inevitable post install updates
    • After the install of all applications
    • After any major application change

You can use free software to make the images the Go-to here is Macrium Reflect Free

With these backups images a complete restore can be made in less than an hour

Changed Ownership of C:\ and Can't Fix

I changed ownership of C:\ now apps like Store, calculator, calendar, etc. don't work.

I have reset using Fresh Start and Recovery, but the ownership settings or app functionality haven't changed.

How can I reinstall Windows 10 with a complete reset of folder ownership and permission settings?

All my files are backed up so if I have to wipe C:\ and reinstall I will. Just don't want to lose my ability to reinstall Windows 10.

    Thank you,

    Greg
