Cloned m.2 now both drives won’t boot Hey there, I cloned my normal 1tb crucial m.2 p3 plus to a 2tb Samsung 980 pro m.2 no issues using.disk genius and I fully cloned the 2 with all partitions, however when that was fully done, I shut down the computer I took out my 980 pro to put into my other pc and I changed the boot sequence and my pc just loads into safe mode and there’s nothing I can do to make it work, I put my 980 pro back into my pc with my other 1tb crucial m.2 and now that pc won’t post anymore and it has the exact same issue as my 980 pro, I’ve fully messed around with bios, ch

  2. Cloned LEGACY SSD to M.2 error: 0xc000000e

    Details:

Recently my 500GB SATA boot drive ran out of space due to apps/updates. I then have purchased a m.2 NVME drive.

I have used Macrum Reflect 8 to clone the 500GB SATA drive to the new 1TB NVME M.2. Before that I did format the new drive with the GPT format in disk management. The cloning process went smoothly.

I then have tried booting into the new drive.

    The drive posted with error:

    "RECOVERY

YOUR PC/DEVICE NEEDS TO BE REPAIRED

    Required file missing

    FILE: \windows\system32\winload.exe

    ERROR CODE: 0xc000000e"

    Keep in mind:

    • Before booting into the new drive the other boot drive was disconnected.
    • The motherboard bios was NOT changed from CSM to UEFI.
    • I did try using a WIN 10 installation image on a USB drive to repair. (Not successful)
    • When I unplugged the new drive and plugged it into a different computer with a M.2>USB Adapter all the files showed up no problem.

    After further diagnosis I noticed:

    • The drive is only recognized in BIOS when in CSM and LEGACY+UEFI. It disappears as soon as I switch OS BOOT to UEFI.
    • Marcum Reflect 8 has reformatted the drive to MBR in order to clone Windows.

    Possible issue:

    • Drive is in MBR instead of GPT. (WRONG FORMAT)
    • Windows installation was cloned as LEGACY instead of UEFI enabled.

    Question:

    1. How do I reformat the drive to GPT?
    2. How do I clone Windows with UEFI when the original is LEGACY?

    System Information:

    Motherboard: MSI B550 PLUS AM4

Old drive: Samsung 870 Evo SATA

    New drive: WD SN850X NVMe

    Software used: Macrum Reflect 8

    OS: Windows 10

M.2 SATA to NVME clone: Windows 10 won't boot

Problem: Windows partition won't boot after cloning M.2 SATA drive to M.2 NVME. Simply returns to BIOS splash screen are restarts boot sequence.

Background: Cloning process was simple raw dd copy. Drive had EFI, Windows 10, and Linux partitions. Cloning preserved exact partition sequence, sizes, and UUIDs.

Linux partition needed minor tweaks to /etc/fstab due to the device names being different (/dev/nvme0n1px vs. /dev/sdax), but boots fine.

The disk is GPT, and I believe the original Windows 10 was UEFI - the Linux installation definitely was.

Boot sequence brings up Linux 'grub' menu first. Choosing the EFI partition then brings up Windows EFI boot menu. Fresh Windows install (see below) boots fine from here, old install fails.

Attempts at solution: I did a fresh Windows install in a spare partition and it boots fine. Using the new Windows installation, I've edited the BCD entry for my original Win 10 install. I have
the correct BCD device, osdevice, and path.

    Questions:

    • What else needs to be done to make Windows boot again?
    • Are there any config file or registry changes that need to be made to account for the SATA to NVME move?
    • How do I see boot error messages for a UEFI boot failure? No errors displayed and no log files that I can find in Windows or EFI partitions...
