Printer not printing after installing the device on the PC on Windows 10.

Hi Yitzchak,

I suggest you to uninstall and re-install the printer as a work around and check if it helps.

Step 1: Uninstall the printer:

• 
  Press “Windows + X” keys on the keyboard.
  
• 
  Click on “Device Manager” from that list.
  
• 
  Search for the “Printer” device from the device list, right click on it and then select “Uninstall”. On the un-installation window, if you have an option: “Delete the driver software for
  this device” you may select that and then remove its drivers from the computer.
  
• 
  Follow the on-screen instructions to complete it and the restart the computer if prompted.
  

You may also uninstall any related software provided by the printer manufacturer from the computer from “Programs and Features”. For this, you may follow these steps:

• 
  Press “Windows + X” keys on the keyboard and select “Programs and Features” from that list.
  
• 
  Search for any software provided by the printer manufacturer in the program list and if available, you may select it and click on “Uninstall” to remove it from the computer.
  
• 
  Follow the on-screen instructions to complete it and the restart the computer if prompted.

Having trouble deleting printer


I have had a Canon Pixma MX850 for several years and it has been a workhorse. Recently I purchased a Canon Pixma MX492 for the added wifi capability. Under no circumstances am I able to remove the MX850 from the Printers and Devices menu. I have been on the phone with Microsoft and Canon several hours over the last week. It still sits there as I type this. When I install the MX492 and update drivers, it still does not show on the printers list and is not recognized when I try to add a printer to the list.

The Canon tech I spoke to suggested there might be a corrupt file or malware somewhere not allowing the removal of the MX850. He suggested I create a new Admin account which would create a new registry and see how that worked. I did that and the MX492 shows up on the printers list and is the default printer.

When I am on my old admin sign on where the MX850 shows up, I can print in Word and Quicken on the MX492 even though it does not show as a printer on the printer page.

So, what to do?

Printer icon appears as Unspecified “Device” in Devices and Printers after deleting the printer

This is the expected result in Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 when deleting a printer using the
Print Management console.

Print Management affects only the print queue and does not affect other device instances associated with the printer. As a result, when you delete the printer this way, an icon remains visible in Devices and Printers,
which still has information about the device instance that was not permanently deleted.

In Windows 10, it is recommended that you use the following method to uninstall a printer:

1. Select the Start button, then select Settings >
   Devices > Printers & scanners .
2. Under Printers & scanners, find the printer, select it, and then select Remove device.

If the printer manufacturer provided uninstalling software, you can also use their uninstaller to remove the printer.

To remove the remnant “Device” icon in Devices and Printers, right-click the icon and select Remove device. Alternatively, using the uninstalling software provided by the printer manufacturer will also delete the icon.
