  3. Rename folder to OneDrive asks Confirm Replacement with another folder

    Hi Kent,

    Welcome to the Microsoft community.

I'm Hahn and I'm here to help you with your concern.

Based on your description, we suggest that you can do it all over again as follows:

    • Open OneDrive settings on your computer.
    • Go to the "Accounts" tab and click on "Unlink this computer".
    • Restart your computer.
    • Delete the D:/OldOneDrive folder.
You can try renaming the old OneDrive folder to something else, then create a new OneDrive folder and set it as a local folder in the OneDrive app.

If the above does not work, then you can try the following steps:

    • Open a "Command Prompt" on your computer (run as administrator).
    • Type rd /s /q "D:\OldOneDrive" and press Enter.
This will delete the "OldOneDrive" folder and all its contents.

    • Create a new folder in D:/ and name its OneDrive.
    • Open the OneDrive application and log in.
    • During the setup process, choose to change the OneDrive folder location to D:/OneDrive.
Please note that this will permanently delete the "OldOneDrive" folder and all its contents, so please ensure that you have backed up all your important data.

If there is anything not clear, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Your Sincerely

Why can't I delete a folder on OneDrive?

    Hi Phil,

Thanks for writing us here in Microsoft Community.

It sounds like the folder you are trying to delete may have been created by a different user account on your computer, and that account has permissions that are preventing you from deleting the folder.

I'd like to ask few questions to better isolate your concern.

    1. Have you signed din to Your request has been blocked. This could be due to several reasons. to check if the folder you would want to delete is still in OneDrive?

    2. Can you confirm if you try to delete the folders in OneDrive through File Explorer? Can you check as well if OneDrive is synced properly?
    3. How about files that are not saved in OneDrive, for example in Documents folder, are you able to delete them or still got the same error?

    4. For the folder that you want to delete, are you the one who created that folder or was it a shared?

While wait for your confirmation, here are some steps to check if it will address the issue.

    1. Right-click on the folder you want to delete and select "Properties".

    2. Click on the "Security" tab.

    3. Click on the "Advanced" button.

    4. Click on the "Change" link next to the "Owner" field.

    5. In the "Enter the object name to select" field, type in the name of your user account and click "Check Names". Your user account should be displayed.

    6. Click "OK" to close the "Select User or Group" window.

    7. Check the box next to "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects" and click "OK".

    8. Click "OK" again to close the "Advanced Security Settings" window.

    9. Click "OK" one more time to close the "Properties" window.

After completing these steps, you should be able to delete the folder without any issues.

If issue persists, you can try the following steps to find other ways to remove the fofder.

    1. Make sure that you have the necessary permissions to delete the folder. If you’re not the owner of the folder, you may need to ask the owner to grant you permission to delete it.
    2. Check whether the folder is open in another program or application. If it is, close the program or application and try deleting the folder again.
    3. Try deleting the folder from the OneDrive website. To do this, go to the OneDrive website (Your request has been blocked. This could be due to several reasons.), select the folder you want to delete, and then click on the ‘Delete’ button.
    4. Try deleting the folder from a different device. If you’re unable to delete the folder from your current device, try deleting it from a different device.
    5. Try renaming the folder and then deleting it. To do this, right-click on the folder, select ‘Rename’, and then change the name of the folder. After renaming the folder, try deleting it again.
    6. If none of the above steps work, you can try using the Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant to identify and fix issues with OneDrive. assistance.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

    Sincerely,
