I didn't receive the invitation to reserve Windows 10

I went to the Microsoft linkHow to reserve your free upgrade to Windows 10

That article advised you had to have KB3035583 update so I clicked on the link provided and then went to my Windows Update and it was there. I installed it . Article said after installation I should see pop up in notification area of taskbar to get Windows 10 (see screenshot).

Nothing happened. I did not get this pop up, so how do I reserve a copy of Windows 10?

    :)

  2. Windows10 reserve-upgrade notification not received!

I'm running windows8.1 in my PC, with all updates installed up-to-date!

still i didn't receive any reserve-your-upgrade notification. How am i suppose to get it now? Is there any other alternative way?

can't I update to windows10 if i didn't receive that invite? Should i be worried about it?

Please, reply! I was so eagerly looking forward for Windows10. Now without reserve-invite, is it that I can't update to windows10 in future after release?

You don't have to reserve a free upgrade to Windows 10. That is just a marketing ploy.

As long as your computer has a genuine copy of Win7 or Win8/8.1, you are entitled to have a free upgrade.
Free upgrade offer will expire on July 29th, 2016.

If you wish to wait for Windows Update to offer you the upgrade, then your Win 7 must have SP1 installed.
If you wish to do manual upgrade using an ISO file, you can do so WITHOUT SP1, and you can do it anytime before July 29th.

If you want to manually install Windows 10, follow this method.....................
Use the Media Creation Tool link below and download the ISO file :
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10

Download the Tool and run it.
Then select Create installation media for another PC
That will begin downloading the ISO file to your computer.
Make sure you know where the ISO is downloading to.

When download is completed, RIGHT click at the ISO > click Mount > click Setup.exe.
That will begin installing Windows 10.
You have the choice of keeping settings, files and apps, or keeping nothing.
    No product key is required.
    Activation will be automatic.

Thank you both for the answers. I do have Windows 7 SP1.

I am going to be trying to upgrade my Vista desktop to Windows 7. Until I get that done successfully, I don't want to mess with this computer. Based on your statement davidhk: "If you wish to do manual upgrade using an ISO file, you can do so WITHOUT SP1, and you can do it anytime before July 29th." can I download this ISO file and just install later or do I have to use it right away?

No, you don't have to do it right away. Just don't go past July 28th.
Upgrade your Vista to Win 7 first.

    Nikilet,

No need to download the ISO now.
Do so when you are ready to install Win 10.
    Why ?
Because by the time you do the download you might have a newer ISO version than the one today.

Thank you for this. All very helpful. I will wait until later to download the ISO file.

I have Windows 7 on my old desktop now and running well. I got my little icon in the taskbar to update that computer to Windows 10. It tells me that it's compatible and all that. Which brings me to why I wish I could get that "Get Windows 10" to appear on this laptop. I would assume this computer is definitely up to the task if my old desktop is, but who knows. I sure don't.

I also have a question about the link you gave me for downloading. At the very top of the page there is simply an Upgrade Now button and it says to begin the upgrade, click on it. I assume if I wanted to start my upgrade right now that's what I would click on. Is that correct?

Then below that is the Download Tool now button. This is what I use to burn a copy to USB or DVD so that I have installation media in case I should need to reinstall Windows 10 for any reason. Is that correct?

Or am I totally misunderstanding this?

The link I gave you is from MCT (media creation tool).

My suggestion in post #2 was to download the iso fie using the Download Tool now button

After the iso is downloaded you have 2 choices :
    1. Burn the iso file to a bootable media such as DVD or USB. Use it to install later on.
    2. Use the iso file and install now by .................
RIGHT click at the ISO > click Mount > click Setup.exe.
That will begin installing Windows 10.
You have the choice of keeping settings, files and apps, or keeping nothing.
    No product key is required.
    Activation will be automatic.

One thing you have to remember with Windows 7: you can't easily "mount the ISO" like you can in Windows 8.x. You'll need a 3rd party tool to do it, like 7-zip. The link @Ztruker gave in Post #3 explains this; in the video, you can see it starting at about 21:30.

Yes. I forgot about Win 7 which does not have Mount option.

    To : Nikilet
If you want to install now, please use the Upgrade Install tutorial.

Easier to just use media creation tool to create a usb flash drive, then insert flash drive in pc and run setup.exe.

Can I still get the ISO file and using something like ImgBurn, burn it to a disk so that I have an installation media for Windows 10?

    Now another problem:
This concerns this old desktop on which I just finished a clean install of Windows 7 (it was a Vista machine). I think I mentioned that I got an invite for Windows 10 upgrade a couple days ago. I just left the little white box on the taskbar. Tonight it opened and wanted me to select Upgrade now or Start download, upgrade later.

I chose the latter and it started to download. I don't even know if I want to upgrade this computer to 10, but decided I would go ahead and get the download just in case. Good thing I kept a close watch on this.

After download was finished it started running again Preparing for installation. The short of it is that it wanted to start upgrading and I had selected the option to upgrade later. I stopped it and on the box where I was supposed to accept or decline, I didn't know what to do so I just clicked the X in the top right corner and closed it out.

I'd appreciate some advice on what went on here, and I'm wondering if now, by stopping everything and not selecting Accept, have I messed up the possibility of installing 10 on this machine
