  1. I don’t want system protection turned off when I do a MR system image

I have a Win10 Pro and ran MR to create a system image backup.
It went well but it turned of system protection.
A message shows up with a warning yellow triangle that reads.
Using system protection on a drive that contains system image backups will cause other shadow copies to be deleted faster than normal.
--- How do I stop system protection from being turned off?

I have another Win10 computer and created a MR system image backup on that one also.
System protection wasn’t turned off on that one.

I do not use shadow copies: If shadow copies are in use on my computer it doesn’t matter to me if that is the case as I don’t know how to use them anyway. I just don’t want system protection turned off.

    :)

  2. Doesn't make sense for drive containing restore points to be turned on for protection, does it?

I'm confused. When you choose which drives you want backed up with Restore Points, isn't that done by turning them on for protection? I just want my C drive backed up. I have two external drives, one of which is set up to receive my System Image and Restore
Points. That is Drive J, which is turned on for protection. Drive I is turned off. Of course I don't want to have Drive J backed up--that's where the backups go. However I can't turn the protection off because when I try, it says all the Restore Points will
be erased if I do. Perhaps this doesn't matter, but I'd sure like to understand.

  3. Windows 10 System Image Backup 0x80780038 error

    1. Right-click 'This PC' and choose 'Properties' to open the 'System' window.

    2. Click 'System protection' and

2.1. Choose the volumn where your Win10 has been installed (most likely, C:\).

2.2. Click 'Configure...', do 'Turn on system protection' and 'Delete' ('Delete' to delete all restore points).

2.3. Choose the volumn where you want the Backup Image to be created to.

2.4. Click 'Configure...', do 'Turn off system protection' and 'Delete' ('Delete' to delete all restore points).

    3. Done.

If still fail, restart your PC and do it agin.

I don’t want system protection turned off when I do a MR system image

    Hi,

The available disk space on the pc with the warning issue is probably too small to store both backup images (MR) and system protection image.

Actually you do. System Protection is a form of Shadow Copying.

Furthermore, it's not wise policy to store backups on the same physical drive as your system. Still better than nothing but all in all not sound practice.
Better to store back up on an ext. removable drive.

In the mean time you could reduce the amount of space allocated to System Protection and see if that helps any.

    Cheers, *Wink

System Protection can be selected per drive.
System Protection is the process that makes Restore points (shadow copies) of changes to your system and is used to go back to a previous setup. On my system I only have System Protection on my C drive. It is turned off on my 2 storage drives and they are data only. I store my MR images on my F drive and also on an external USB drive.

  6. After reading the above, I shut my computer down and also removed my 1TB external HDD. Started back up and the system protection was automatically on. Problem solved: thanks..
