Windows 10: I followed advice on how to Reset Computer without recovery key or microsoft ID and lost my...

I found an old work laptop. I don't have the password anymore so I tried resetting it by installing Windows 11 but it said it needed a BitLocker Recovery Key which I don't have. I googled and followed the advice in the link below to reformat my BitLocker partition and my BitLocker partition disappeared. I used DiskPart> Clean. Is there a way to get it back? I got the below message.

You don't have any BitLocker recovery keys in your Microsoft account.

Are you referring to the Recovery key for BitLocker or the key that needed for resetting Windows Phone?



If you are referring to the Reset Key that is needed for Windows Recovery, then I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if it helps:

• Go to account.microsoft.com/devices.
• Next to the phone you no longer own, click I don't own this phone anymore.
• Select “I’m ready to remove my phone “check box, note the
  recovery key, and then click Remove. The recovery key will display on the page and will also be emailed to you.
• When you're certain that you have your recovery key saved, select “I’ve kept a copy of the recovery key “ check box, and then click Okay.
• Forward the recovery key email to your phone recipient.

Your phone is no longer listed on account.microsoft.com/devices, and you can remove Reset Protection during phone setup using recovery key option.

I’m sorry to hear that your PC is locked by BitLocker. I can try to help you find the correct recovery key, but please note that if you can’t find it, you may need to reset your device and lose all your files. Microsoft support is unable to provide or recreate a lost BitLocker recovery key.

There are several possible reasons that could cause this situation:

You chose different encryption options (such as full disk encryption or encrypt only used space) when enabling BitLocker and changed them later. This would generate new recovery IDs and keys while keeping the old ones.

You changed hardware, firmware or software configurations (such as BIOS settings, drive order, operating system updates etc.) after enabling BitLocker which caused Windows to detect a possible unauthorized attempt to access data and ask for the recovery key.

To resolve this issue, I suggest you try the following steps:

Check if you have other Microsoft accounts that you may have used to set up your PC. If you have used multiple Microsoft accounts in the past, it's possible that the recovery key is associated with a different account.

Check all possible places where you stored the recovery key and make sure you use the one that matches correctly with the ID shown on your screen.

If all of this fail and there is no other way to find the correct recovery key that matches with ID shown on your screen then I regretfully inform you that only remaining viable but also worst-case scenario option is resetting device which will erase all data, but it will allow you to regain access to your computer.
