I frequently have x's, circles, or check marks appear on my desktop icons Windows 10 They go away when I refresh the desktop. I uninstalled one drive long ago, and I have deleted and refreshed the icon cache. How do I stop this happening? Thanks.

X, 2 people, or check marks on desktop shortcuts.

I am running Windows 10. My desktop shortcuts sometimes display either a small gray X, an icon of 2 people, or a check mark in a green circle. Sometimes they rotate between the three every few seconds. This effects all desktop shortcuts. It does not happen all the time, but does often. It does not prevent use of the shortcuts. I have never set up or used One Drive. I do not have any cloud storage services installed. I do have shared local network RAID drives.

Hello, everyone. I'm trying to figure out what is going on with my Windows 10 computer yet again. For this post... Well, let's just review as I noticed it.

About two weeks ago, I noticed that there were check marks in the middle of the bottom of ALL the icons on my desktop. It's a white circle with a black circle inside that with a green circle filling it in the rest
of the way. In the middle of the green circle is a white checkmark. Just a moment ago there were small circles with checkmarks in them in the bottom left of each icon.

Earlier this evening, as I was watching my computer, these icons that looked like Google Chrome showed up on my desktop icons and after a moment of the whole screen flashing, they were replaced by more green checkmarks.

But I've also seen translucent, grey Xs on my icons.

Does ANYONE know what these are from? They weren't there in Windows 8.1.

I'm a fast ring user of Windows 10. I am currently running what I believe is the latest build (14342) of Windows 10 on three different PCs.

I have been seeing the check marks on desktop icons for at two builds now.

This eveing I deleted desktop.ini from my desktop and every desktop icon got marked with an X.

I refreshed my desktop and the Xs went away.

I hope that helps the Microsoft wizards...
