  1. i get a bsod UNEXPECTED_STORE_EXCEPTION 154 even after changing faulty ram.

It started some weeks ago. was trying to play victoria 3 but it would often crash so a friend recommended i enable xmp profile. doing so, specially profile 2, would not only immediately crash my pc with, but wouldn't let my pc turn on until i put xmp back to default. it worked just fine but still an issue so i google around, find out i should enable auto vram instead of custom i do not know why it was custom and i do exactly that. things work out great, i play vicky with no crashes but that is when the issue gets worse, a few days later. the game would not work and would crash my pc, even on

    :)

    BSOD (Unexpected_Store_Exception)

    Hi Nabil,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I'm Hahn and I'm here to help you with your concern.

Based on the information provided and the Bugcheck Analysis, the BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) error you encountered is an UNEXPECTED_STORE_EXCEPTION with Bugcheck Code 154.

The UNEXPECTED_STORE_EXCEPTION (154) error seems to be related to an in-page I/O error while trying to decompress data from the store component. The error message indicates that the required data was not placed into memory due to the I/O error status 0xc000009c.

The Bugcheck Analysis suggests that the system encountered an unexpected exception related to the store component, which could potentially be caused by data corruption or problems with the storage (hard drive or SSD) during decompression.

While faulty RAM (SODIMM) can be one of the reasons for system instability, it's not the only possible cause. Given that you mentioned using an old gaming laptop and experiencing this issue when browsing with lots of tabs open, there could be several other factors contributing to the problem:

    1. Storage Issues: The error could be related to data corruption on your storage device, such as the hard drive or SSD. If you have an HDD, it's more prone to failures over time. Consider checking the health of your storage device.

    2. Driver Issues: Outdated or incompatible drivers can also cause system crashes. Make sure all your drivers, especially those related to storage and graphics, are up to date.

    4. Software Conflicts: Certain software applications or browser extensions can cause conflicts that lead to system crashes. Try running your system in Safe Mode and see if the problem persists. Start your PC in safe mode in Windows - Microsoft Support

Regarding your assumption about needing a new pair of SODIMMs, faulty RAM can indeed cause various issues, including system crashes. However, in this specific case, the error points more towards storage-related problems rather than RAM.

To troubleshoot and identify the exact cause of the issue, you can try the following steps:

    1. RAM Issues: Faulty or failing RAM can indeed cause issues like BSODs. To determine if the RAM is the culprit, you can try running a memory diagnostic test. Windows 10 has a built-in memory diagnostic tool that can help you check for memory problems. To run it, follow these steps:

    a. Press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog.

    b. Type "mdsched.exe" and press Enter.

    c. Choose "Restart now and check for problems."

    2. Hard Drive Issues: In some cases, the error may be related to a failing hard drive or issues with data storage. Running a disk check or checking the SMART status of your hard drive can provide more insights.

Disclaimer: Running chkdsk can check the file system and file system metadata of a volume for logical and physical errors. To avoid any trouble for you, please follow them step-by step ,do not cancel or interrupt chkdsk, and back up important data.

    3. Software or Driver Conflicts: Issues with specific software or drivers could also cause this error. It's a good idea to check if there are any driver updates available, especially for graphics drivers.

Before replacing any hardware, it's best to narrow down the possible causes by ruling out software-related issues. If you can pinpoint the problem to faulty RAM through testing or isolate the issue to a specific driver or software, it may save you from unnecessary hardware expenses. However, if you've exhausted all troubleshooting steps and the issue persists, seeking professional help or considering new RAM may be a reasonable next step.

I hope this helps. If there is anything not clear, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Your Sincerely
