Windows 10: I get multiple different letters when typing. Any ideas to fix?

I just bought this computer today. It's a HP 15.6" Windows 11. During setup I noticed 6 keys are linked to each other. When I type the letter 'b' I get 'bt', type 't' I get 'bt'. I type 'y' or 'n' I get 'ny'. On the number pad I type '9' or '7' I get '79' for both. Any ideas? Would like to avoid returning it.

Slow to start up and when I first start to type I get multiples of whichever letter I type. After a while it works fine, no multiple letters and speed is good

 

How to fix

My computer crashed and I have tried everything I can think of you restart, but the command prompt starts with x: instead of c: I've tried the fixes suggested and listed below:

In Command Prompt, type DISKPART, press Enter.

When it loads type LIST DISK.

Choose the Windows hard drive by typing SEL DISK # with # being the desired disk number from results.

Then type LIST VOL which will provide a list of the various partitions with their assigned drive letters in Recovery mode which may be different than in Windows.

But when I type in DISKPART is says There are no disks to show

Any ideas

Does this happen all the time or only while using a specific app?

To fix this issue kindly try the steps below:

1-Go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters > Select Keyboard > Run the troubleshooter and follow the displayed instructions.

2-Change the keyboard layout and check whether the issue still persists or not:

3-Use Keyboard tester and press all keys to see if they are typing more letters or not:

4-Go to Settings > Ease of Access > Keyboard, and make sure Sticky Keys is Off.

5-If the issue still persists, uninstall the keyboard driver:

Right click on Start > Device Manager > Expand Keyboards > Right click on Standard PS/2 Keyboard > Uninstall > Restart the computer to reinstall the keyboard driver automatically, then check to see if the issue is fixed or not.

7-If it did not help, try to use another keyboard and check if the issue still persists or not. If the issue does not persists, it means the issue is hardware-related. If your keyboard warranty is still applicable, contact your product's manufacturer to run a diagnostic on your device.
