Windows 10: I got Win 10 Home activated without asking any key or version of Windows on ASUS Motherboard.

I have built a PC using used parts. The ASUS H81M is my motherboard for 4th Gen CPUs. I installed Win 10 from official site using media creation tool to my pen drive. I installed it two times, windows didn't even said key and activated win 10 home. I did it 2nd time with different email just to be safe. Previous email was I guess used on some previous install of win 10. It still activated without missing a beat. I for 3rd time went to repair section of installer, cleaned both SSD and HDD, there was only one drive out of each so both went to be unallocated space, using DiskPart in cmd to be saf

Win 10 upgrade on refurbished ASUS S200E notebook - Activation error code: 0xC004C003 (key blocked)

Basic facts

The upgrade:

• Upgraded a couple of days ago from a properly licensed version of Windows 8.1.
• Asked during install to input product key; skipped it as didn't have the key to hand.
  
• Tried to activate post-upgrade but received error to say key blocked.

Next steps:

• Contacted ASUS tech support.
• Told to register laptop online; registered laptop.
• Then told no service for refurbished laptops so no key.

Question: on the basis that: (a) MS say that they will upgrade any compatible device running a genuine copy of Win 7 / 8 / 8.1, and (b) my device is compatible, and (c) it was running a genuine copy of Win 8.1,
then will MS provide me with a key given that ASUS has refused to?

You cannot activate a retail version of Windows with an OEM key.
The retail version should have it's own activation key.
If you just borrowed the Win DVD from someone who is using the key, that won't work with your OEM (OA) key.

It does work in Vista and 7, just not in XP.

Have you looked on the ASUS website to see if you can re-download the driver/diag disk, or at least everything you need to make one?
