My Windows 10 edition on my Dynabook Satellite Pro computer became corrupted after 1 year from buying the computer 2nd hand and wouldn't start. I tried all the repair offerings in the recoverable environment and all failed. I had bought the computer 2nd hand. I didn't have a product key but the computer came with windows 10 and has the MS windows hologram on the back. I downloaded a new windows 10 from another computer onto a memory stick and installed it on the failed computer. I hoped the new version would detect that I'd had windows 10 before and not expect me to pay again. But although

Replacing old hard drive, need way to copy Windows installation across

    Hey Guys,
What would be the best way of copying/imaging the entire contents of an old system drive over to a replacement hard disk for the same machine? I need to copy the Windows installations and all other data to the new drive, and then format the old drive to use as a backup.

Any suggestions? *Smile I Had to Replace a Corrupted Copy of Windows 10 using the MS Website. :)

  3. Start Menu Corrupted - ms-resource:appDisplayName

So after further searching , I found out the following odd facts :

I Had to Replace a Corrupted Copy of Windows 10 using the MS Website. 164851d1511215791t-start-menu-corrupted-ms-resource-appdisplayname-start2.jpg

So this is the odd app showing in start menu with several other missing apps .

Now few forums suggested this to be a sign of corruption example here .

So forums suggested too that there is a tool to fix corruptions called Start Menu Troubleshooter which wasn't easy to find .

Like always all MS Troubleshooters it managed to state the obvious :

So searching on for means to fix the corruption since Microsoft was vague enough about this I came across this page here :
The odd thing is my old profile has an XML based setting file and empty database folder :

While new profile has no XML file but a database folder :

I Had to Replace a Corrupted Copy of Windows 10 using the MS Website.

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK
