I have 2 ASUS Laptops from 12/2020. They run great, and have been really pretty reliable, but I am getting to the end of their "useful" life, as Microsoft Windows 11 will not install on them. They both have7th generation, i7 7500 Intel CPUs, with 2.70 to 2.90 GHz speed. They have 16gb installed ram, and are running 64-bit os on them. Is there away to make them eligible for a newer version of windows, or am I just stuck?

    :)

  2. Intel Core i7-7500 CPU Not Supported For Windows 11

I have a Lenovo Yoga 910 Laptop with an Intel Core i7-7500 2.7 GHZ 2-core CPU. I was surprised to see that it is not compatible with Windows 11. This CPU surpasses the minimum requirement. This is very disappointing, and seems like a way to get people to buy new computers.

I would like to know why this CPU is not compatible.

Thank you for your response. Yes, I clicked the compatible processors list. Many Core i7 processors are listed, but not the 7500 for some reason. What is frustrating is that the Core i7-7500 is 2.7GHZ which is double the requirement, and it has 2 cores, which meets the requirement.

Intel Core i7-7500 CPU Not Supported For Windows 11

No one really knows. Your computer should pass all of the hardware security requirements. Chances are, they are already enabled (UEFI BIOS, secure boot, TPM 2.0, and availability of virtualization based security).

People have guessed and speculated one thing or another. Could be, for example, that the device drivers don't meet the new bla bla bla "principles," which supposedly improve reliability. Even though they really don't, that anyone would ever notice.

The arbitrary rules are, only three Intel Core i7 processors of the 7th generation have been added to the list, and they are all three in the 78xx series. So, your 7500 is not on the list, and highly unlikely that Microsoft will add any more. The general rule is Intel Core processors of 8th generation or newer.
