  2. How to set monitor to 2560x1080 resolution (Recommended by the monitor) when Windows gives the best option of 1920x1080

    Hi Microsoft Community,

This has been driving my head in recently,

I have a Surface Laptop 3 Ryzen 5, I am connecting to a monitor through my Surface Dock 1.

When connecting to the monitor 9/10 times windows will automatically set the resolution to 1920x1080, when this happens it gives me no 2560x1080 in settings.

The other 1/10 times, the monitor will connect to the desired 2560x1080 resolution and display this as an option in the settings.

I need your help to fix this so my monitor is always displaying 2560x1080, It's like it has a mind of it own. Before I got the Surface Dock, I had the same problem with a adapter when connecting to the monitor. Sometimes it would allow for 2560x1080 and sometimes only allow 1920x1080, It has a mind of it own!!!.

I will be listing the specification of the products I am using down below

I have spent many hours trying to figure it out, I will appreciate any efforts!
    Thanks Joel

    Laptop: Surface Laptop 3

    • OS: Windows 11 Home 22H2
    • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 Microsoft Surface (R) Edition 2.10 GHz
    • GPU: AMD Radeon(TM) Vega 9 Graphics
    Monitor: LG 29" Ultrawide 29WL500-B

I am connecting the laptop through Microsoft Surface Dock (1661) using a Mini DP to HDMI(1.4) Cable.

External Monitor displaying at 1920x1080 and not 2560x1080

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

This issue could be because of the cable you are using to connect the monitor, below are few information you will find helpful.

HDMI cable supports 1080p of maximum resolution, whereas DVI-D cable supports 1680 x 1050, mini DisplayPort supports 2560 x 1440 and mini DisplayPort to VGA supports 192x1050 resolution.

I suggest you to try with different cable and check if that works and try the below steps and check if that helps.

    Steps:

    1. I suggest you to
      uninstall
      the Intel graphics driver from

      the device manager
and reboot the computer once and check.
    2. I also suggest you to
Download drivers and firmware for Surface
      and check.
    3. You can also open Intel graphics properties and try to change the display resolution from there.

    Additional information:
Displays that work with Surface Studio
    .

If you still face the issue, please reply to this post with more information.

    Hope it helps.

    Can't change to 2560x1080 Resolution.

Hello there. I have been dealing with an issue for a long time regarding my resolution. I want to change my display resolution to 2560x1080 (ultrawide), but I do not get the option to do it. I have tried to fix it, but I've got no idea how. I tried "List All Modes" thing, and some other stuff to fix. Didn't work out. My resolution is forced on 1920x1080.

I have a LG Ultrawide monitor, which has a 2560x1080 Ultrawide resolution.
