I have a Alienware 17 R3 with an Intel i7-6820HK and is not on compatibility list for Windows 11 upgrade. Is this processor going to be supported at a later date? Everything else is good for upgrade. This was a $3,000 laptop and prefer not to have to buy a new one.

Hi All,

I have an Alienware 17R4, with i7 6820HK. When I ran the windows diagnostic scan, it was showing my CPU is incompatible to perform the upgrade. However, when I checked the list of CPU that do support win11 upgrade, 6820HK is listed.

Could there be some issue with the diagnostic app? Or is there anything I'm missing out? Even the lower versions, 6820and 6820HQ are listed as compatible.

Any advice, suggestions, clarity on this would be most helpful

Unfortunately Microsoft is not adding new Intel CPU model to the compatitble list.

However, Microsoft won't stop you from clean installing Windows 11 on an older device. Clean install will wipe out all your data. So if you want to pursue that route, make sure you background your data first.

To perform a clean installation of Windows 11 using the Windows Media Creation Tool:

The following steps should be done on a working Windows computer:

Download the Windows Media Creation Tool from Microsoft's official website. https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/win... click on the "download now" button under "Create Windows 11 Installation Media"

Run the tool and select "Create installation media for another PC."

Choose "USB flash drive" as the media to use for the installation and select "Next."

Connect a USB flash drive with at least 8 GB of free space to your computer.

Select the USB flash drive you want to use, and then select "Next."

The tool will then download the required files and create the installation media.

Now these steps will be done on your problematic computer:

Go to the computer's BIOS boot menu to have it boot from the USB drive.

Follow the on-screen instructions to install Windows 11, making sure to choose "Custom install" and select the option to delete all existing partitions.

Once the installation is complete, you'll have a clean installation of Windows 11 on your computer.
