I have a drive that I'm unable to delete things from. The things I've tried:I've attempted to change the ownership of the drive, it responds with "media is write protected" and references several video filesI've attempted changing permissions of what users can change under properties/security from "read & execute / list folder contents / read" and adding full control and/or modify and/or write and am met with "the media is write protected". I've attempted "attributes clear readonly" through cmd on the drive with no successI've tried using the registry editor / storagedevicepolicies / DWORD

    :)

  2. Fernandz Win User

How To Format A Write Protected Flash Memory ?

    ¿You already tried this one?...

    Run CMD

    1. diskpart
    2. list disk

Then in the 3º step, put the correct number of disk in the list for the usb flash (if it's listed in disk 3, then you'll have to write select disk 3).

    2. select disk #
    3. clean
    4. create partition primary
    5. select partition 1
    6. active
    7. format fs=fat32
    8. assign
    9. exit

with that commands you will format the flash drive in fat32, if you have a large drive you can select also "format fs=ntfs" in step 7.

    good luck!

  3. Write Protection On PC Hard Drives - Denied Access Worked Before Feb 11th 2020 Update - Possibly??

    Greg,

Thanks for responding promptly, appreciate that!!

So far I've been reading some of your links and used the Ease US Tools M.

Instead I've used the command prompt to perform the steps

The Disk Is Write Protected Remove Write Protection from USB

It actually failed on the 0 drive.

The Ease US Tools M software, it for some reason shows the C drive but will not let me use the drop down list

and show C only F Drive which was connected to my computer (external trying something else). Cannot do anything with C maybe not visible so
I can un-protect or remove Write protection on the drive (C).

Still going through your links/suggestions - but thanks for all your list of options.

hopefully something here will click and actually work to fix the issue -weird never before have I experienced this.

This is an HP Omen Desktop purchased in November 2018.

  4. I have a drive that is write protected, I'm unable to delete game clips from it.

How to gain access to write protected external hard drive

    1. Check the physical switch. Some external hard drives have a physical switch that can be used to enable or disable write protection. Check the drive for a small switch that may be labeled "Write Protect" or "Lock." If the switch is in the "Write Protect" position, move it to the "Unlock" position.
    2. Remove the write protection tab. Some external hard drives have a small tab that can be used to enable or disable write protection. This tab is usually located on the side of the drive. If there is a tab, remove it.
    3. Format the drive. If the drive is formatted as a read-only format, you will need to format it as a writable format. To do this, connect the drive to your computer and open File Explorer. Right-click on the drive and select "Format." In the Format dialog box, select "NTFS" as the file system and click "Start."
    4. Use a data recovery tool. If the drive is damaged or corrupted, you may need to use a data recovery tool to gain access to the data. There are many data recovery tools available, such as Recuva and Disk Drill. These tools can scan the drive for lost or deleted files and recover them.
If you are unable to gain access to the drive using any of these methods, you may need to contact the manufacturer of the drive for assistance.

Here are some additional tips for gaining access to a write protected external hard drive:

    • Make sure that the drive is properly connected to your computer.
    • Try connecting the drive to a different port on your computer.
    • Try restarting your computer.
    • Try updating the drivers for your hard drive.
    • If you are using a USB drive, try formatting it as a FAT32 drive.
    • If you are using a FireWire drive, try formatting it as a NTFS drive.
If you are still unable to gain access to the drive, you may need to contact the manufacturer of the drive for assistance.
