Windows 10: I have a hotmail email address and am receiving threatening emails from my own hotmail...

I have a microsoft account and an outlook and a hotmail email address, and am receiving threatening emails from my own hotmail address. Has my hotmail account been hacked and if so how do I stop it without closing my account?

Email - reporting spam/phishing - from a Hotmail address

My computer has NOT been hacked - I merely received a fraudulent email from an @HOTmail address.

I get spam/fraud emails almost every day but they are rarely from hotmail/gmail/yahoo/ type addresses - when they are from a large internet email provider - if possible as well as reporting the fraud to the UK Investigation service I report it to the hosting company - in this case Hotmail - I found I did not have a forwarding address saved for hotmail frauds and so checked the TenForum webiste and also did not find one there - hence my post and then further investigation and comment.

Nonetheless thank you Macboatmaster for the very helpful response - which I hope may also prove useful to others.

I was not suggesting your computer had been hacked
I was suggesting that you check on the site I sent if your email address has been subject to a breach on any site where you submitted it.
My other suggestion was to see if a security scan revealed anything of concern and most importantly to change your password for your email

IMHO

if that is the case - please be assured that your email address - one way or another has been circulated amongst spammers.

I have given you my recommendations - you must of course do as you wish

No emails received

If you have not, check the folders on the left column. (spam, trash, archive, etc) I have an old hotmail acct and recently had some messages from inbox go to archive.
