Windows 10: I have a little red square icon with a picture of an open laptop in my task bar. nothing...

I havve a little red square with a pic of an open laptop in my task bar. I cannot launch anything from my task bar....start button won't work search bar etcetc Also have an icon that looks like a keyboard next to my wireless signalwhat is this and how can I fix?

Win10, Icon in task bar black square

I have a shortcut on my desktop that opens a specific web page. I have created an icon for it, and the icon shows on the desktop. To get quicker access to it, I have pinned the shortcut to the task bar. That worked fine for a while. Then suddenly the icon
turned to a black square in the task bar, still showing the correct icon on the desktop. I followed some advice that told me to stop explorer, delete the icon database, and start explorer again. That, in fact, did restore the icon on the task bar, but after
a reboot of the computer it was back to a black square.

All other icons show up fine on the task bar.

Does anybody have any ideas about this?

Forgot to mention:

When I click on the black square on the task bar, the web page opens, and the icon changes to the generic Windows icon (4 colored squares). It goes back to black when I close the window.

So, related question: How do I change the generic icon to the icon I had defined for the shortcut? For reasons not up to me I have to use Chrome. Is that a Chrome setting?

 

Task Bar icons

Hi there.

Can someone please tell me how to change back my taskbar icons to those little squares. Because now every time I open an icon, it is like this rectangle in my task bar. And for those who do not understand what I am talking about, it is those icons at the
bottom of your screen.

I accidently changed it without realizing what it is, and now I don't know how to change it back. So a little help would be appreciated.
