I have a new PC and was resetting my old Win10 desktop so I can move it on to someone else. All seemed to work well except I can no longer log in with either PIN or Password. I am told to go to some microsoft pages, but that is daft as I cannot get it to login and doing that on the new PC will not benefit the OLD PC. I don't have discs for the old PC as this was updated several times onlone from previous windown 8.1 I think!I have followed everything I can find on teh self help pages but it doens't help. This was all done doing reset, remove all software

    :)

Win10: windows update stuck at never ending loop ?

    When in win10:
    • Update&security -> Windows update -> Finding update... .... .... ....
Planning to download the latest Win10.ISO (vers.1803) and manually update:
    - Then wait that my ordered new SSD arrives and clone the old HDD to it.

  3. Access old WIN7 desktop with (toggle?) access to the new Win10 start screen

    Thanks for the reply.

This is a new Dell PC that came with WIN10 installed. If it has another OS installed, I am not aware of it. To my knowledge, no other OS has ever been installed. The desktop that appears before the WIN10 start screen just looks like a pre-WIN10 desktop,
if not WIN7, then another one. Maybe I should be talking to Dell.

I mean exactly that: As WIN10 boots from a shutdown, a desktop that looks like the Win7 desktop on my old Toshiba Satellite laptop (running WIN7) appears for one second or so before the WIN10 start screen appears. It looks as if this phantom desktop is under
the WIN10 start screen. And it is a desktop with icons for folders and files. The WIN10 start screen replaces (or overlays) it almost immediately. Sorry if this isn't clear. Best I can do.

The virtual OS /partition solution you describe is too complicated for my level of expertise even if I wanted to install another OS, even a virtual one. I know what a dual boot involves and I just don't want to go there. Best if I contact Dell and ask
them to explain that phantom image.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. You confirmed my suspicion that there is no simple solution.

New build PC w/SSD and new HD + new Win10 Retail usb + old HD with Win10 oem

I was informed that I can not use my current copy of Win10 on my new build because it's OEM. Soooo, I bought ANOTHER copy of Win10 Retail on usb from the Microsoft Store.

    Now my question:

I'll install the new copy of Win10 onto my new computer's SSD and will be set to boot from it. All my pics, files, music, etc is on my old HD (along with Win10 oem). Since I'll be booting from the SSD with the new copy of Win10, will it cause problems if
I simply add the old HD to my new build, to access all my files? Or do I need to painstakingly transfer everything from it to the new HD through a usb?

I won't be able to run both computers at the same time because I'll be using the power supply from the old one.

    Any suggestions?
