I have a program which takes minutes for a particular user to open.

I am running a program on Windows 10. The program ran fine in early October but now it takes minutes to open. Other programs appear to be unaffected, it is just this one. As soon as I call it up it goes into a Not Responding state. In Task Manager it seems to be doing nothing. For a long time I thought it was hanging so I was ending the process. There are 2 versions installed side by side, this has never been a problem. The very old version still works but the newer one has developed this problem.I tried uninstalling anything installed since early October, including Windows updates.I re

One Particular Program Will Not Open

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

We understand that you are unable to launch an application.

As you have mentioned the game was originally released for Windows 98/ME/XP, it could be possible that the game might not be fully compatible with Windows 10.

We would suggest you to check the installed programs list to see whether the game was successfully installed or not. To check type: appwiz.cpl in the search bar on the Taskbar and hit Enter. Look for the game in the list.

If you do not find the game in the list, we would suggest you to try installing it again.
After installing the game, refer the steps below to run the game in compatibility mode:

    1. Right click on the game file and select
      Properties.
    2. Click on Compatibility tab.
    3. Now, under Compatibility mode, click on
Run this program in compatibility mode for.
    4. Select Windows 98/ME/XP using the drop down menu.
    5. Click on OK and try running the game.

For more information, you can refer the article
Make older apps or programs compatible with Windows 10
    .

We would also suggest you to contact the game manufacturer and check if the updated version of game is available, that can be run in Windows 10.

    Let us know the results.

  3. Allow the second user to access particular programs

    Hi Marisa,

It depends on the Windows build because if you use Windows 10 Home build, Microsoft doesn’t provide an option to give access to the particular programs. However if you use Windows 10 Pro build, it is possible to give access to the particular applications.

    Follow the steps:

Go to the Group Policy window - scroll down to User Configuration - Administrative Templates - System

On the right pane, find the settings for Run only specific Windows applications and double click on it to find Properties.

Tap on the Enabled, then click on the Show.

When you are in the Show Contents window, tap each line in the list and type in the name of the executable you want users to be able to run.

    Once done, click on ok.

    Shut down Local Group Policy

Allow the second user to access particular programs

Is there a possibility to allow the 2nd user to get access only to the particular programs on my PC? I don’t want this person to open my files. Thank you in advance
