I bought the $200 retail Win10 Pro because it was supposed too be transferable when I moved too different machines at least thats how it was marketed too me. Sure not feeling buying another $200 copy for a new machine. For the record I am swapping the drives from old too new computer.

Upgrading from Windows 10 OEM to full retail. System does not recognize retail version.

I had a machine with an OEM version of Win 10 PRO. I changed the MB and processor which deactivated the OEM Win 10 installation. I purchased Win 10 Full Retail FQC-08788, removed the original partitions from the SSD drive using DISKPART and installed the
retail version. I linked to my existing MS Account and tried to activate the machine, only to be told I couldn't activate the OEM system and suggested I visit the MS store to acquire a valid license.

WHAT GIVES!!! Was it because I linked to my on-line account? Is the old OEM information being held in the UEFI somehow? What do I have to do to get the new Retail version recognized?

Future hardware updates using Win 10 Pro Retail version

    Hi,

    Thanks for reading.

I am about to purchase Win 10 Pro and will chose the retail version over the OEM version. Probably on USB.

My question is does the retail version allow hardware updates. Including new motherboards, added high speed M2 SSDs (including for boot), a second video card in SLI and other enhancements?

I understand WIN 7 PRO Retail allowed all these things, you could actually cease use on one machine (mobo failure eg) and install on a new machine.

This is very important to me as I live right near the ocean with big surf. Salt and dust causes the circuit boards to 'rust' even in my +ve pressure filtered case.

My long term computer shop (UMart in Australia) says WIN 10 is tied to the HDD, and I doubt that!!!

    Thanks for the help.

    John.

Win 10 Pro - Cannot Update current version 14393

Enclosed are the results that were requested:

Partitions - Don't like "minitool" because it lists my Linux partition as NTFS, so I am also including a screenshot of the Disk Partitions from within Linux.

CheckDisk results are enclosed as a text file "EventLog" and the Sentinel program report is also included as "Disk Report": Sentinel GUI shows bad sectors, but I didn't see that on the chkdsk report.

I have stated my current Win 10 version and I can confirm the system wants to upgrade KB4033637, which I have tried to install manually along with some other KB files previously stated. For clarity, I am including screenshots of my System Info and Upgrade info:
