144Hz and 165Hz are no longer available on brand new monitor

I received an Acer Nitro RG241Y monitor (Full HD 65Hz) and tested it extensively this afternoon, and 144Hz was working just fine over HDMI from my laptop with an Intel Xe Graphics (core i5 11th gen) GPU. Then I moved the monitor to my bedroom desk and for some reason it's now limited to 120Hz, as 144 and 165 Hz are missing from Windows Settings and Intel control panel. I tested different cables (including the one that came with the monitor), both HDMI 2.0 inputs and nothing, it's capped at 120Hz now. I know 165Hz will usually only work over DisplayPort, but it was still supposed to show on the refresh rate list.

Any idea on what might have caused 144 and 165Hz to be AWOL after turning off the monitor and moving it to another room? Does anyone know how to get these refresh rates back? Is it a graphics driver or Windows bug? Here are screenshots where 1080p144Hz and 1080p165Hz are listed as supported modes on Intel graphics panel, but are missing from refresh rate dropdown list. Like I said, both rates were available earlier today and at least 144Hz was working.

  3. Dual monitor setup locks 144Hz monitor at 60Hz

I've been running a multi-monitor setup for a while now, with an ASUS VG248QE 144Hz monitor as my main, and one or more spare monitors as secondary displays. I've set the ASUS monitor to 144Hz without issue in the past, while the other monitors stay at 60Hz.

The other night, Windows wanted to update. I figured it was the usual patch session, so I let it do its thing. However, after restarting my computer, I noticed that my ASUS monitor would only operate at 144Hz if it was the only monitor plugged into the system. When I try to set it higher in the Nvidia control panel, it just reverts back to 60Hz after applying changes. I updated my graphics drivers (though I was only one version behind) and even sought a special ASUS driver for the monitor to resolve the issue, but nothing has helped.

Did Windows recently add a forced refresh rate sync between all monitors recently? If so, that really sucks because I only own one 144Hz monitor.

Windows 10 Environment is Stuck in 60Hz when my Display can Output 165hz

I just downgraded from Windows 11 to Windows 10 and realized instantly that everything is stuck in 60hz and not 165hz the way it used to be in Windows 11. My mouse on the other hand is in 165 but everything else isn't. How do I fix this?
