I have an ethernet connection but webpages and applications won't load due to "The DNS...

Hi, I don't know a lot about computers so when my ethernet connection wasn't working, I googled how to fix DNS issues on my phone which led me to open up the command prompt and input:

    ipconfig /flush dns

    ipconfig /registerdns

    ipconfig /release

    ipconfig /renew

I kept getting DNS errors and webpages wouldn't load, and apps on my PC such as Discord, Google Chrome, and Battlenet no longer could connect to the internet, even though the Ethernet connection icon in the bottom right of my screen said it had internet access, as well as within the Control Panel.

Since the ipconfig didn't solve my issue, and I tried resetting my router several times, restarting my PC, and eventually wound up hard resetting my entire PC. I still kept getting "This site can't be reached" "The DNS server isn't responding" etc.

After hard resetting my entire PC removed all files, settings, etc. I was disappointed to see that my issues still persisted. I still have ethernet connection, but I can't connect to anything. I found a YouTube video that said to use these commands:

    ipconfig /release

    ipconfig /all

    ipconfig /flushdns

    ipconfig /renew

    netsh int ip set ds

    netsh winsock reset

    *Restart Computer*

Didn't work : I'm not sure how to fix this issue and any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thank you!

    :)

  2. Randomly failing to load webpages?

Do the webpages fail to load when you are directly connected?

Also, with the normal network setup, can you ping an internet IP address (Google, or a ventrilo server or such), bypassing the DNS?

Break it down piece by piece and just eliminate working parts.

Is this the only computer on the network having issues? Double check your PC is getting the proper DNS too, roadrunner/Comcast DHCP likes to override gateway DNS settings when you acquire an IP.

    Randomly failing to load webpages?

On my computer, Google Chrome, IE9 and Firefox 4 all randomly fail to load webpages. A few quick points:

    • This happens even on a fresh install of Windows (and on my previous install as well)
    • I thought it might have been my ISP's DNS server failing, so I switched to Google DNS and it still randomly fails
    • My router is a homemade machine featuring a 2GHz P4 Celeron, 256MB SDR memory, and a 512MB CF card as the hard drive running the generic x86 DD-WRT client
    • I've rebooted my modem/router many times and the problem persists
    • I am no longer using my surge protector to protect my modem, the coaxial cable runs straight from the wall to the modem
    What should I do?

    Ethernet connection issues, internet working

I have an issue where my ethernet connection on my PC sometimes fails to work even though

    • all my internet home devices connected to the same connection are working perfectly
    • when I plug my wifi stick into this PC (which I used for months before I tried ethernet), it also works fine and won't come up with any issues even after I use it for months unlike my ethernet
    • my computer itself fails to detect the issue as the network is displayed as 'connected', I never get any error messages, running windows diagnostics on the connection fails to detect any problems
    I say 'sometimes' because:

    • this issue does not happen every time I start my PC
    • restarting my PC 'sometimes' fixes the issue
    • ipconfig/release, ipconfig/flushdns, ipconfig/renew 'sometimes' fixes the issue
    • reseting my network settings 'sometimes' fixes the issue (it might just be the restart though that 'fixes' it)
    More details on this issue:

    • I believe this issue may be some sort of server connection issue as:
    • the issue doesn't completely block my connection - if I wait long enough I can still google search things/ load into some webpages
    • my connection does not appear to be a speed issue - if I manage to load into youtube the youtube video loads at a normal rate, but moving between different pages in youtube takes forever
solutions that have not worked so far:

    • deleting all my hidden/unused network adapters
    • network reset
    • using google's DNS servers
    • disabling/unchecking IPV6 to force the connection to use IPV4 (I thought it might be an IPV6 issue as my ethernet status says 'No network access' for IPV6)
    other details

    • my windows 10 is fully up to date
