Windows 10: I have an HP computer with Windows 10, and I forgot my login password.

I want to keep my files, but when I try to reset the password, it asks for a USB flash drive. In Advanced Options, I don’t see any options to format or reset my computer, nor can I access the Command Prompt. What should I do?

If it's a Microsoft account, you should be able to change the password via another computer at live.com and the password should also change to match on the computer (obviously make sure it has internet access first). The password is verified online during login.

You need to boot into Safe Mode. Do this by mashing F8 when the computer is starting, right before Windows loads, until you see a bunch of options. Select "Safe Mode". It'll boot into Safe Mode, and bring you to the login screen. At the login screen, go in as "Administrator", and from there go to the control panel. In the control panel, open "users", select the account you forgot the password of, and click "remove password". Restart the computer and all will be well *Smile .
