Windows 10: I have an old laptop that requires the password from last log in to access - But how do I...

I haven't used this laptop for around 11/12 years and the log in is still somewhat tethered to my email address, however, in order to log in I need to use the last password that was used to log in to this laptop... I've tried everything I can think of and clever me left no useful password hint that has proven successful. Microsoft help is also not being very helpful right now..Is there any way to recover access to this computer and by-pass the need for the password? I still have access and use the email address daily so can verify credentials using it, I just have no idea what the password wou

We understand how difficult it could be and we appreciate the time and effort that you have taken to work this issue. However, in order to get clarity, we would need some more information regarding the issue.

1. Were you using the “Old email (account) address” regardless of not using laptop?
   
2. Are both the email addresses linked?
   
3. Could you please let us know, where exactly you get prompt for the password for the “Old email address” in the desktop?
   
4. What is the exact error message you get when you try to log in to laptop?
   
5. Does your desktop has two user profiles?
   

In the meantime, we would suggest you to follow the steps mentioned below and check.



You would need to have internet connection in laptop, so that the password change could get updated and it seems that the laptop is not connected to the internet, we would suggest you to connect Ethernet cable to laptop and then
try logging in to the laptop with the new password for the old email address.

Log in requires password

Since a recent update the PC now requires a password to log in.

I have tried Windows Key - netplwiz and unchecked "users must use password...."

There are no other users shown in the listing.

I use my Windows account as my log in which is also the administrator account.

Also on restart the lock screen shows - pretty picture and no taskbar. I have to press spacebar to release that and then it shows my account and requires a password input.

 

Can't Log into Windows on Old Laptop

Hello. I am trying to log into an old laptop to retrieve some photo files. The Windows password I have recorded does not work. I tried to reset the password, but the system is telling me that I need a recovery disk--which I do not have have. Then I tried to reset using the Windows recovery form, but I don't seem to be providing enough information to find the account. I currently have Windows on two other devices that use a PIN. They are showing up on my Microsoft device list, but the old laptop is not listed.

I'm pretty sure the old laptop is running Windows 10. Please help me access my photo files! Many thanks.
