Windows 10: i have an update issue 0x800f0831

it keeps saying "There were some problems installing updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information" and i tried rebooting my laptop but still have this issue i don't know what to do.

Usual fix for that is an in-place upgrade repair install which keeps all progs and data like any 'upgrade' procedure. I seem to recall that was suggested in your previous thread. Tutorial available, and I've posted a 4 step short-form procedure many many times. Were you to search tenforums for 0x800f0831 you might find e.g.

 

Windows 10 updates - Error 0x800f0831

I have a persistent 0x800f0831 error on a couple of Windows 10 Pro (build 19044) machines. It's been weeks since Updates are stuck, and I get this error.

I have tried whatever method I could find:

• Followed the steps provided by the Microsoft support chatbot, i.e. running DISM (/scanhealth, /checkhealth, /restorehealth).
  
• Run the Updates additional troubleshooter.
  
• Tried various (popular it seems) methods found on the internet, including stopping and starting update-related services while deleting various windows folders etc.
  

Nothing works. I am open to other suggestions. Machines are i5 16GB RAM.

Any more tips are apprieciated.

 

Error When Trying to Install Update (0x800f0831)

So I am trying to install an update but get the above error message (0x800f0831) is the error code

When I look up, it says this is a cumulative update, meaning it needs a prev update first.

OK, smart windows, what do I search for next? which one does it need? any clues atleast?

Here is what I found on google; - but the question is, what update # do I search for in the microsoft update catalog?

Resolution

To fix the issue, follow these steps:

1. Go to Microsoft Update Catalog.
   
2. In the Search box, enter the package ID of the <Missing_Package>.
   
3. Download the package and then install it.
   
4. Reinstall the <Failed_Package>.
