    I have had a corrupted mbr and had to reinstall windows, not it says I cannot activate


    I have a device that was working and fully activated but the disk corrupted and Windows was not able to repair it. I have made no hardware changes, the only thing I have done is boot from a USB to a disk from an old machine. Having rebuilt initially with the wrong version of Windows initially but now with the right one I can see two devices with the same reference registered to my Microsoft account with the same serial number in my Microsoft account list of devices. The device has a SSD and has no bad sectors and was browsable as a disk so I can only conclude that it was a Windows update

    MBR keeps corrupting after restart

    I have a machine that when restarted or allowed to go into hibernation, I receive a missing/corrupted master boot record message and Windows doesn't boot. I am able to successfully repair the MBR each time using Windows recovery console, but I'm unable to determine what keeps making it happen.

    Dell Latitude E6420
    Windows 7 64bit

    Steps performed so far: -besides fixing the MBR after each restart or hibernation
    -ran system file checker sfc /scannow
    -ran chkdsk
    -verified that ACHI was enabled in the bios

    If I can't figure this out I will end up just reinstalling the operating system, but I worried that the issue with just reoccur later down the line. Any advice/recommendations would be much appreciated.

    Corrupt MBR

    Hi,

    What exactly are you doing, what program say about MBR corruption; what is the exact message text and error code if displayed.

    If the MBR structure is really damaged simple software decisions are unavailable unfortunately.

    Corrupt MBR

    I am having a problem booting on Windows 10. Attempting to boot brings it to Windows RE.

    I found the following suggestions to correct the issue.

    Redirecting

    When I ran bootrec /FixMbr , it completed.

    When I ran bootrec /fixboot , I received an access denied message (or similar wording - didn't write it down)

    Any suggestions?
