  2. Windows 10 pro generic key

To activate with the Pro Product Key, you must first go offline using Airplane Mode in the Action Center, insert the default Generic Version key to change to Pro Version.

Then go back online and insert the Pro Product Key in Settings > Update & Security > Activation > Change Product Key to Activate.

Again, this has been necessary since Version 1803 blocked using Pro Version keys while online if you don't already have a Pro Digital License - with many cases reported that a valid Pro Product Key will not activate until the version is changed first by going
offline and inserting the Generic Pro Key.

  3. Upgrading Home install to Pro with generic product key

Logic says it shouldn't activate, otherwise everybody running Home would get a free pass to Pro. The generic Pro key is listed online, even here on this forum. Your Digital Entitlement stored on the activation server is for Home not Pro. As far as I know anyway. All my PC's are already running Pro so I can't actually test it.

Usable Product Keys for Enterprise downgrade to Pro

Hello wetenhr, and welcome to Ten Forums. I have home version of 10 and I use generic key for see pro but I did not back to home... :)

You could downgrade to Windows 10 Pro using the generic key under step 1. You'll still be using the same version that you currently have installed, but you will be able to update to the latest version and build via Windows Update.

When it's finished downgrading, you could try to activate Windows 10 Pro with your Windows 7 Pro or Ultimate key. If unsuccessful, you may need to purchase a Windows 10 Pro key from the Store to use to activate with.
