  1. I have lost access to the system tray (10130 Update channel)

I have two computers running "fbl_impressive 10130 Professional" in dual-boot configuration. One was upgraded from 10174 via the ISO. The other; "fbl_impressive 10130 Professional (Slow Ring over 10122)."

The problem is present on both. I want to change the old "always show, show when active, always hide" attributes for the several NA Icons (System Tray or Systray)

Even Godmode has changed. I had a collection of links to change these Icons in Quick Launch. They no longer work.

TIA. MSAnswers didn't seem to have any reports of this. Maybe I'm just plain nuts! *Confused

    :)

  2. How do I get the latest version of Windows 10 Insider Preview

I am a Windows Insider, I just signed up for it on the 29th of June, and I have Windows 10 Insider Preview build 10130. I am on something called the "fbl_impressive" channel. I think I need to be on the "fbl_release" channel.

Links break during upgrades. You often have to recreate them.

The link is no longer in the popup, you have to right click on the taskbar, and go to properties, then click the "Customize" button under "Notification area".

  5. Based on my question, do you really think I hadn't tried your suggestions?

I'm not trying to be rude, but I'm familiar with your suggestions. I would prefer some more expert help if it's available.

Notice no tab for 'Notification Area'?
It got moved to "Settings" via the 'Customize' button.

    Only it's not there.

Not here either. I had hoped my clue about "Godmode" would have tipped my level of experience.
Again if someone can help me find the location, I offer my gratitude in advance.

Given your hubris... i'm disinclined to help, but did you bother clicking the "Select which icons appear on the taskbar" link?

For me, it allows me to choose which icons appear in the popup, vs in the taskbar. However, you can accomplish the same thing just by dragging them out of the popup onto the taskbar. Or vice versa. There does not appear to be a way to hide them, from what I can see.. I imagine that may be coming in a later build.

  7. Hubris is a two way street. Your suggestion answers my question. Thank you.

As an old, old timer I translate 'taskbar' as 'taskbar' and "Notification Area and
System Tray (or Systray) as themselves.

I chose to offer my thanks despite your disinclination.

Just a side note. The SETTINGS area only offers ON/OFF. No control for conditional settings. Oh well! They can't get [WIN]+M right.

You're welcome, but in the future you might be less obnoxious about claiming someone doesn't know what they're talking about. That jab about preferring more expert help was pretty condescending, especially since it turned out you were wrong.

But, regardless, as I said it only allows the two states, but to probably expect hiding in a later build.

Not sure what you mean about the Win+M, as that works fine for me, minimizing all apps.

    It's *Start + D now.

Many applications themselves have options to turn off systray icons.

  10. Here's your OA
The lack of a solution led to my "obnoxious" response. I quoted you to show the apparent lack of the answer you took credit for. The links were from Godmode pre-10130. The links are NOT in Godmode 10130 and can't be recreated.

Pull out your XP manuals, WIN+M minimized the Active (focus) window. Pass this on to Edwin who thinks [WIN]+D answers my [WIN]+M observation.

All windows are active in Windows 10; you can type in one window and scroll a document in another simultaneously; focus is different.
Win+D minimizes all windows, Win+D again brings them all back.

Regarding of your 'old-timer' status (me too), things change and things changed a lot between XP and Win7, then changed again with Win8 - the transition to Win10 from XP does have a learning curve. You probably already know that though *Cool

Have fun learning all the new places MS put things and the new way to launch stuff. It does no good to complain about it, I tried that and no matter how much I yelled at the machine and cursed MS for changing things - I still had to figure out how to operate the machine running the then current release. *Wink

Please mark this thread Solved - thanks.

I'm sorry, but my original response was exactly correct. Just because you didn't bother to read the dialog that opens isn't my fault. I'm sorry if I gave you credit for being able to read the obvious text on the screen that said exactly what you were looking for.

Your original question said your links "no longer work", which indicates that the links are there, but broken. My assumption was that your Godmode wasn't working at all, which is why I said you might have to recreate the link to the Godmode function. If you meant that the links are gone specifically for this function, I wouldn't have said anything about it, because the function as it used to be is gone.

Regardless, as you can see from this Windows 8 and 8.1 shortcut key guide, Win+M "Minimizes all windows". This is not something new to Windows 10.

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/w...cuts=windows-8

Even Vista, Win + M minimized all windows.

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/w...=windows-vista

Win+D and Win+M seem to do the same thing, but they have slightly different connotations. Win+M Minimizes all Windows. Win+D shows the desktop. Effectively, they do the same thing, with the exception that using Win+D a second time restores all your windows, while Win+M does not. Win + Shift +M wil unminimize the minimized windows though, so they are effectively the same if you use the Win + Shift + M.

    EDIT:

Even this Knowledgebase article says that Win + M minimizes all windows in XP.

  15. To be honest Godmode is not exactly a needed feature... Godmode is simply a folder with links to all of the different control panes and such, which Microsoft is actively rebuilding in Windows 10. Search is pretty fast. It's not really a requirement to have a deep and detailed knowledge of one precise aspect of the OS, but preferably knowledge of the general operation and intention of the OS and it's layout in order to more easily locate and understand a component that is your current focus.
