Windows 10: I have lost the ability to share files to other pc's on my network using windows 10 pro

I have lost the ability to share files to other pc's on my network. I am using windows 10 pro and can't connect to any other pc'c. The other PC's windows 7 and windows xp can connect to me but I can't connect to them. I do not have a domain. Just 4 pc's connected by cat5 cable to a router.


I can see and ping successfully but cant connect. Tried with windows explorer and Remote desktop connection.


Says the local security authority cannot be contacted. Everything worked fine until a recent update for windows 10. Since then it has not worked. I rolled back the update but still does not work.


I can see them, ping them from windows 10 but can't connect to them. Everything works fine from the other pc's.


It is just a simple network where we need to share files and now the windows 10 pro pc is locked out.


Can anyone explain what is happening please

• Have you made any changes on your PC?
• Did you perform any Windows update recently?
• Are you connected to Domain network?

I suggest you to try the below steps and check if that helps.

It seems I am not alone in this predicament (thanks Windows 10!).

Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK
