Windows Media Streaming - removed device off network discovery

Control Panel> Network and Internet> Network and Sharing Center> Media streaming options

When you hover over a device you have the option to remove it from the list. I accidentally removed my other PC off this list and would like help undoing my problem. I cannot find anywhere on my pc or online on how to fix this.

  3. PC not visible as a media device

    Hi

    Thanks for your reply.

It's indeed quite puzzling. Here are a few more suggestions you could try:

    1. Reset Network Settings: This will reset all network settings back to their default state. Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Network reset. Please note that this will remove all network adapters and set other networking components back to their original settings. You might need to reinstall other networking software afterwards, such as VPN client software or virtual switches.
    2. DLNA Server: Check if the DLNA server is enabled. This is what allows your PC to be seen as a media device on your network. You can do this from the media streaming options in the Network and Sharing Center.
    3. HomeGroup Settings: Even though HomeGroup has been removed in the latest versions of Windows, some of its settings might still be affecting your network. Try leaving the HomeGroup if you're still part of one.
    4. Third-party Software: Some third-party software, such as antivirus or security software, can interfere with network visibility. Try disabling them temporarily to see if it makes a difference.
    5. Check Services: Ensure that the following services are running: UPnP Device Host, SSDP Discovery, and Function Discovery Resource Publication. You can check this in the Services window (you can search for it in the Start menu).
I understand that this is a frustrating issue, and I hope it gets resolved soon.

Disable/Remove Media Devices from the Network (WMP?)

    Hello Rex,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

Try the below steps and check if they helps

    • Click Start, type Media streaming options into the search space and select the same from the list
    • Go to Show devices on, then select All networks from the drop down menu.
    • Click on the Block All box.
    • Select any one that you want to remove, click on its Remove link, and click on
Remove the device to approve. Go on until you remove all that you wanted.
    • When finished, click on OK.

Open This PC, right click on any left (one at a time), and click on
Remove device again. Let me confirm that this will only remove them from your
This PC window. If in case these media devices are still connected to your network, then they will always appear in your Networks folder since they have been detected.

Keep us posted for any concerns with windows, we're glad to assist you.
