Windows 10: I have my oneDrive folder on an external HDD drive, but I read that this is NOT supported...

I have my oneDrive folder on an external HDD drive, but I read that this is NOT supported As far as I can tell my setup is working perfectly. Why Is it not recommended?

Run OneDrive from an external hard drive

I would like to share one thing that if you want to setup OneDrive on External Hard Drive the External HDD should be connected to the Computer because if you disconnect and again connect it to the computer , it will prompt you to again setup OneDrive where
you initially did the setup. Because to sync OneDrive you cannot have the both locations,as i hope you knew that the location or path can be one only.

Sync folders with OneDrive on multiple drives

Hi folks,

I have multiple HDDs and have my default user folders (Music, Videos, Movies, Pictures) spread across them based on how I am managing things. I would like to have OneDrive point to different folders on different drives to sync but I can't figure out how
to make this happen.

Scenario:

• The root OneDrive folder is currently on E:.
• Music is currently on drive C:
• Videos is currently on E:
• Want both to sync with OneDrive

 

Slow HDD read and write speeds

We will require a few more information from you to help you further with the issue. Please reply with the following details:

• In which device are you facing this issue?
  
• Are you using an external HDD or internal HDD?
  
• Are you getting the read and write speed issue on any particular application?
  

However, you can Disk Defragment on your computer to optimize the drive. To run Disk Defragment please follow the steps from the article

Defragment your Windows 10 PC.

Alternatively, you can check for the read and write speed of the HDD in task manager. Please follow the steps mentioned below to check the read and write speed of the hard drive:

1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc key together on the keyboard.
   
2. Click on Performance tab.
   
3. Click on Disk 0.
   
4. You will find the Read speed and
   Write speed at the bottom of the window.
