Windows 10: I have not activated a BitLock Recovery Key and now Windows is asking for it, and I can’t...

I bought a laptop with an original Windows installed, then something happened to the motherboard, and the Windows was not identified as the part of the motherboard that reads the SSD Hard disk was not working. I got it repaired through a certified repair and under the warranty, but now Windows requires a BitLock Recovery Key, which I searched my Microsoft accounts and did not find. Can I get any help without losing my data? Note: I did not activate a BitLock or any other encryption before the repair.

Asking for Bitlocker recovery key on login

So I was playing with BIOS settings for reformatting my laptop and reinstalling Windows using bootable USB drive. I didn't succeed and I probably did something stupid. Now I'm not able to login into my laptop. It's asking me for bitlocker recovery key on both disabled and enabled settings of secure boot.

On "Enabled" setting, it says "Bitlocker needs your recovery key to unlock your drive because Secure Boot policy has unexpectedly changed."




On "Disabled" setting, it says "Bitlocker needs your recovery key to unlock your drive because Secure Boot has been disabled. Either Secure Boot must be re-enabled, or Bitlocker must be suspended for Windows to start normally."




I don't have a recovery key. I don't remember setting one. I even searched for it in my Microsoft account. My device (ASUS X205TA) is listed but the recovery key is not.

Note that I don't have any useful data in the laptop, so I'd be fine with reinstalling windows even if I loose all the data. I just want to be able to use my laptop again.

Bitlocker Recovery Key

Hi,

My HP Envy underwent some updates when I shut it down last night. These completed normally.

This morning when I turned it on it is asking for a Bitlocker Recovery key. I was not aware that this laptop even had bitlocker activiated, but clearly it has.

I do not know what the recovery key is, I have not copied it to a USB stick or written it on a piece of paper. Why would I? I didn't even know bitlocker was activated.

I visited my microsoft account and found that the HP is listed in the 'Devices' section with the correct identifier and there is a link to 'Bitlocker details'. However, when I click this the bitlocker key and key identifier listed there do not match the key identifier that the laptop is asking for. And entering this key just gets me "this is incorrect".

How come the wrong key is listed there?

How can I get the correct key?

Is there anyway to get round this without losing all my data?
