Windows 10: I have not been able to make purchases on microsoft because it says I need to ask a parent...

I have been trying to buy more storage for my computer and it will let me put my card info in then when I hit continue it says there was an error because of a parent lock. I am not in a family account, and do not have a "parent email" connected to my account to even contact, so I am not sure how to resolve this.

when the microsoft store tells me to ask my parents for a purchase, it doesn't email them Microsoft Store

so i don't know if I'm part of a "family group" but whenever i purchase something, it says:

Ask a parent for permission

You need permission to buy this. We'll let you know when you're good to go.

Redeem a gift card instead

so when i click "Ask Now" it doesn't even send an email to any of my parents

 

Childs PC and Parental PIN

To make sure, I suggest you refer to the steps below to check if a PIN has been added to the parental control settings：

1. Open "Control Panel": You can type "Control Panel" in the Windows search bar and select the corresponding result to open the Control Panel.
   
2. Access the Parental Controls settings: In the Control Panel, locate and click on "User Accounts and Family Safety."
   
3. Choose the Parental Controls settings: On the Parental Controls page, find the account of the child you want to make changes to and click on it.
   
4. Modify the Parental Controls settings: In the Parental Controls settings page, you should be able to find the option to "Change Parental Control Settings" or a similar option. Click on it, and you may need to enter the administrator password for verification.
   

You are right about one thing. If your child's PC has not been logged into your account, there is indeed no option to change the PIN in the system's account settings.

I want to check with you if you have used the Microsoft Family app on your phone?

There are also settings for child accounts on the app, maybe you can find the settings on the app.

Finally, there is another possibility, please check whether your Microsoft account (parent account) has set a PIN or turned on two-factor authentication, and if so, please temporarily close them.

Parental Controls aren't working

Hi,

The issue could be because of corrupted files. I suggest you to delete the corrupted files yourself and see if it helps

to resolve the issue, please follow these steps:

1) Make sure your children are signed out of any monitored accounts.

2) Sign in with an administrator account and find the folder that contains the corrupted files.

There are two ways to do this. The easiest way is to enter the complete file path:

• 
  On the Start screen, type C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Parental Controls and press Enter.
  

• 
  If you’d rather open each folder individually, follow these steps:
  

a. Go to This PC

b. Open C:, open the
ProgramData folder, open the Microsoft folder, open the
Windows folder, and open the Parental Controls folder.

3) Delete all contents of the Parental Controls folder.

This will delete any corrupt files. Your settings will be downloaded again from familysafety.microsoft.com the next time you sign in.
