  2. Remove Linux installation from Windows10 machine

    Hi Riff,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I understand your concern, I will be glad to assist you.

The process is actually quite simple.

Note: Before you start, make sure you have an up-to-date backup of the system you want to keep. If you make one tiny mistake in the steps below, you could end up deleting the wrong partition, which would be very very bad!

    Keep Windows and Remove Linux:

Follow the steps and check if it helps.

    • Type "Disk Management" in search box, Open the Disk Management tool.

    • Find Linux partition. It won't be labeled since Windows doesn't understand the Linux file system, so you'll need to figure out where it is on your hard drive. Make sure you have the right one before continuing!

    • Right-click on the partition and choose "Delete Volume." This will delete the partition from your hard drive, leaving free space. If you get a green box of "free space," you'll have to right-click on it and choose "Delete Volume" a second time until you
      get the black "Unallocated Space."

    • Right-click on your Windows partition and choose "Extend Volume." Extend it to fill the free space your Linux partition left behind.
    • Lock the computer and Press Shift key + Restart it will take you to Windows Recovery Environment there select "Troubleshoot,">>select Advanced options>> click on Command Prompt. Type the following command:
This will remove Linux's bootloader and replace it with Windows'.
    • Reboot your computer and you should find that it boots directly into Windows, with no Linux partition to be found.
Hope the information is helpful. Let us know the status of the issue.

  3. Can't extend a partition after removing linux

    Hello.

So I had a dual boot computer, with Linux & windows 10.

I decided that I don't need Linux on my machine any more, and searched how to remove Linux.

On the guide I found, they told me to open the Disk Management Application. After I opened it, I deleted the Linux partitions, and had new free space.

Then, when I needed to extend on of the Windows partitions to the free space, I right-clicked on of the partitions, but the "Extend partition" option was disabled:

Do you know why? And how can I fix it?

    Thanks.

    Remove a linux partition

Is Windows 7 on the boot partition or a logical drive?

If Linux is on the logical partition, boot to the Windows 7 desktop.

    Click Start, right click Computer

    Click Manage

    Expand Disk Management

Select the partition where Linux is currently installed, right click it then click Delete.

There might also be a swap partition, right click then click Delete.

The volume will now appear as Unallocated. Our next step is to merge back that unallocated free space with the system partition. Right click the System volume and click the ‘Extend Volume’ option on the contextual menu, click ‘Yes’
    when the warning appears.

A wizard will now begin that will guide through the steps to merge back the unallocated space with your system partition.

The wizard provides a simple procedure to merge back the unallocated space with the system drive. Once you have selected the space, click Next, at the end of the wizard, you will see the amount allocated.

    Upgrade to Windows 10

Download the Media Creation Tool Now

Right click the MediaCreationTool.exe file then click
    Run as administrator.
