I have the Close Program sound effect playing every few seconds. How can I figure out what...

So I set a sound effect for the Close Program windows event and I've noticed that that sound effect goes off constantly and I'd like to diagnose what exactly is causing this to trigger? I see task manager reflects audiodg.exe Windows Audio Device Graph Isolation using so much of my cpu and memory or at least being triggered every few seconds to play this sound. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can figure out what program is closing causing this sound effect to spam me like this? I'd just take the sound effect off, except I feel there's an underlying program or something that's opening

    :)

Frequent, intermittent "Close Program" system sounds

On my parents' computer, a chime plays rather frequently. It's not consistently triggered, but it is frequent. It will happen while the computer is idle, but often times if it has gone a while without it, a click will trigger it (but not every time).

The sound itself is the one called "Windows Background," and the Program Event (in the Sound settings menu) that triggers this sound is specifically the "Close Program" event. I tested this by changing the "Close Program" event to another sound, and then that one started playing at the same frequencies. Changing other events using "Windows Background" had no effect.

I have monitored this sound in the Volume Mixer, but it just shows as being played as a System Sound. No application pops up as being the source of the sound.

How can I narrow down what program is causing this sound? Presumably something is closing, hence the sound, but even if I stare at the process explorer, I haven't been able to find any smoking guns here. Nothing in the list looks overtly suspicious (a large collection of Microsoft and Dell processes, several from Avira and Canon, some Intel, some Apple, and so on—nothing terribly nefarious that I can tell).

I do know how to disable the sound (clearly, since I've already tried changing it to a different sound). That is not my question, my question is how can I figure out what's causing it?

Any Program Starts and then 10 seconds later Closes. Why?

My system is 64 Bit Windows 10 Pro version 10.0.19043 with Update 21H1
My program was working. I saved a copy of my work then later came back to continue working. The program would start then 10 seconds later would close. My programs including Teamspeak, Mobile Plans, Zoom, Windows Administrative Tools, Notepad and many 3rd party programs now all do the same thing. The only programs that will continue to work are MS Office, File Explorer, Task Manager and MS Edge. I am able to open JPG files in File Explorer.
If I go into Settings and go to Update & Security, Recovery, Reset This Computer, the routine will open but then close 5 - 10 seconds later. I can go to Control Panel, select uninstall a program and the routine will start and then close. I cannot install a program through Control Panel nor can I run Restore.exe. The programs or routines start and the close without achieving a result.
As I have indicated the computer was working well, it had not been turned off and then when I came back to do more work the above problems occurred.
Can anybody suggest the next step other than re-formatting the drive?

No sound while playing audio and video files.

    Hi,

I appreciate if you could answer to a few questions to narrow down to the issue.

    • Which is the application that you are using to play the files?
    • Did you try the same on a different player?
    • Did you perform any troubleshooting steps?
As an initial troubleshooting step, I suggest you to check if the volume is set low or in mute state in Volume Mixer.

    • Right click on sound icon.
    • Open Volume Mixer check for the application that you are playing the files with and increase the volume and check.
If the issue still persists, I would suggest you to run “Playing audio” troubleshooter to diagnose and fix the issue.

Follow these Steps to run Playing Audio Troubleshooter in Windows 10.

    1. Type troubleshooting in the search bar.

    2. Select Troubleshooting.

    3. Select View all on the top left corner.

    4. Click on Playing audio.

Hope the information helps in resolving the issue related to the sound issue. Let us know if you need further assistance. We will be happy to help.

    Thank you.
