Windows 10: i have the same issue with gir489_2 about "Windows 10 21H1 with AirPod Max does not work"...

i was recently trying to play halo infinite and i booted up the game and at the main menu the game sounds bad. i have set the input mode to my external microphone but it just wont stop sounding bad. i even disabled voice chat. usually I never have this issue with other games on other plat forms. but for some reason it only happens on Xbox titles. i understand its an hardware issue on the air pods max but shouldn't there be a way to permanently disable the microphone option on these games?

Windows 10 21H1 with AirPod Max does not work

I am currently trying to get the AirPod Maxs connected properly to my Windows 10 work machine. I got it to connect crystal clear audio to the head phones through Robert's AirPods Max Stereo. The audio sounded amazing and almost 1:1 from what I was used to. However, I wanted to enable my mic for Discord calls to a friend, and started messing with stuff, now NOTHING works.

This is what I bought to enable Bluetooth connectivity.

There's currently two listed devices.

Headset: Robert's AirPods Max Hands-Free AG Audio (Sounds like complete **** on both the mic and earphones)

Headphones: Robert's AirPods Max Stereo (These sound the best when they work)





I tried forcing it to look for a better driver, but nothing has worked.

That is a limitation on how Bluetooth headsets work on Windows and Android devices too (since your device is an AirPods, they surely work better on Apple devices because of Apple integration)

In almost every Bluetooth headset, they have 2 modes: Stereo Mode and Hands-Free mode.

While on Stereo Mode, you will have the best audio quality, to hear music, watch videos, etc.

On Hands-free mode you will have a "call quality" audio, good enough for calls, but very bad for anything else.

When the Bluetooth device microphone is requested, the device enters on hands-free mode, the audio that is being sent to the Stereo device is cut and you can only hear the audio from the Hands-free device.

That's not a driver issue or a audio issue.

Unfortunately that's a limitation of Bluetooth that applies to all Bluetooth devices, not just the AirPods Max. When you are using the microphone, you can only use the hands free mode which sounds like complete garbage. Stereo only works if you're not using the microphone.
