Windows 10: I have to enter Windows account credentials before I can enter a website password. Why?

When I sign into a website like Yahoo.com I get a prompt appear asking me to enter my password for my Windows account first. Why & how do i stop it?

What does ‘enter network credentials’ mean?

Hi Melanie, ‘Network Credentials’ means a user ID and password so you need to enter them to the computer you're trying to connect to. It can be a Microsoft Account or a local User ID.

If you don’t know what to enter, check your Windows credentials. Do the following steps:

Click on the Start button - type Windows credentials - press Enter.

In the "Internet or network address" field, enter the name of your desktop computer. e. Enter the correct username and password for your desktop.
   
4. Check Folder Permissions: On your desktop, ensure that the shared folders have the appropriate permissions set up for the user account you're using to access them. Right-click on the shared folder, go to "Properties," and under the "Sharing" tab, ensure that the correct users or groups have the necessary permissions.
   
5. Network Reset: If the issue persists, you might consider performing a network reset on both your desktop and laptop. This can sometimes help resolve network-related issues. To do this, go to Settings > Network & Internet > Network Reset.

In that case, have you changed your Microsoft account password recently?

If so, it could be asking you to re-enter your password to update it in Credential Manager for your account.

If it keeps asking you to enter your most recent password, then do this below to clear the old password from Credential Manager, and add the new one automatically to stop this.
