    Good surround sound headset

I know you say you're not that guy, but stepping into the $250+ range really brings a change in build quality that might have you never having to buy another set. Otherwise, getting 6 speakers with decent sound in a headset is hard, and that's what you are asking for, and I have no suggestions, but just a bump up the list. *Stick Out Tongue I have to restart my laptop each time I plug in my headset. Is this normal. I'm running... :p

  3. Headset & mic shown as plugged in when not, mic not working when plugged in

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand that you are facing issues while using microphone on the PC.

    1. Since when are you facing this issue?
    2. Have you tried connecting the headset on a different PC?

As you have mentioned that the headset shows as plugged in, it could be possible that the hidden drivers might be conflicting with the installed drivers of headset and microphone. Let’s try a few steps and check if that helps.

    Method 1:

    1. Unplug all the headsets connected to the PC.
    2. Press Windows key + R. This will open
Run. Alternatively, you can go to Start and search for Run.
    3. In Run dialog box, type
      devmgmt.msc
      and hit enter.
    4. Now click on View and select click on
      Show hidden devices.
    5. Go to Audio inputs and outputs and expand it.
    6. Now uninstall all the
      greyed out devices
      .
    7. Restart the PC.

Once the restart is finished plug in the headset and check if you are able to use the Microphone.

    Method 2:

    Run the Microphone troubleshooter.

    1. Go to Settings >
      Update & security > Troubleshoot.
    2. Under Find and fix problems look for
      Recording Audio.
    3. Now click on Run the troubleshooter and follow the instructions.
    4. Now click on Speech and click on
      Run the troubleshooter.

Also, you can refer to the article

    Hope it helps.

Headset not being recognized when plugged into laptop

I've been having an issue for a couple of weeks now, where I can't seem to get my headset to work properly. Whenever I plug it into my computer, the sound will work fine (audio comes out of the headset instead of the laptop speakers), but the mic doesn't
get used (mic on the laptop is used instead of the mic attached to the headset). I've tried what feels like a million things to get it fixed, but nothing seems to do the trick. First, I opened my sound settings, and went to the recording tab to see if it was
just an incorrect default device kind of situation, but the headset doesn't even appear under the list of devices, only the laptop microphone, and "stereo mix". I tried making sure all disabled / disconnected devices were being shown, and still nothing. Next,
I tried running the built in microphone, troubleshooter, but because my device wasn't listed under the devices from earlier, it also wasn't listed under the devices in the troubleshooter, so that got me nowhere. Finally, I tried updating basically all of my
audio drivers to see if that was the problem, but from the looks of it, all of the recommended drivers are already installed. I'm at my wits end, because I don't know what else could be the issue. This very same headset was working perfectly only a few weeks
ago. I did mess around with my sound settings a little bit around the same time that it stopped working, but I can't imagine that I messed it up so bad that it would be this difficult to fix. Any help would be appreciated.
