I have two external hard drives attached to my Windows 11 machine used for back ups and also large scale storage. The older one a Samsung Story Station has since the last windows update started throwing the following message every few minutes:If I go to windows explorer I can access the drive and see all the files held on it and I can access and open files from drive. I have ejected the device and plugged it back in but the message keeps coming. There is no app associated with this drive and never has been. What does this message mean?

We suggest that you try the troubleshooting steps below:

• Open your External Hard Drive file in File Explorer.
• Type the name of the file you want to search on the search box and click Enter.

The file will show up in Search Results and you will be able to move it to the correct folder.

Using XP hard drive Virtual Machine on Windows 10

I want to use my XP 32-bit hard drive (it is in an external enclosure) on a Virtual Machine under Windows 10 64-bit. The Win 10 machine has 16 GB of RAM and 2TB hard drive. The XP hard drive came from my old Gateway computer which has been trashed.
Installed on the hard drive are Visual Basic 6 and many programs written by me. A few are compiled and function on Windows 10, but many others are not compiled. I would like to compile those for use on my Win 10 machine. A large program is compiled and
cannot run because it requires a DLL to be installed on the Win 10 machine. I prefer to use the XP hard drive (in the external enclosure) as is with the virtual machine set up if possible. I am assuming that since the XP OS and Visual Basic are installed
on that hard drive, they can function as they once did. I have never attempted a virtual machine and need detailed instructions on what steps to follow. My question is, can I do what I state above and, if yes, how do I do it?

If you can't find external hard drive on Disk management than the next step is using the diskpart via command line, please follow the steps below:-

On the keyboard hit ((Windows logo key + R key)) than type ((CMD))

Now the windows command line will appear, the next steps is to type ((diskpart))

After that type ((list disk)) to show you the list of hard disks with partitions

If you found your external hard drive one of the list than you need to type ((select disk number)), note: the number is a disk number

Once you selected the hard disk or partitions than type ((clean))

than type ((create partition primary))

than type ((select partition 1))

than type ((active))

than type ((format fs=ntfs quick))

than type ((assign))

last type ((exit))
