  1. I have two monitors which both support audio but one does not work as audio output

I'm on Windows 11. I have two monitors that support audio output and they both have their volume up to 100%. They're both connected to a KVM so I can switch between two laptops. They are both using the HDMI-1 input. The KVM is all HDMI connections for video, and USB connections for mouse/keyboard. The KVM has an audio out jack which is connected to an external set of Logitech Z625 speakers I can only get sound through the speakers if I select the left monitor LG Ultrafine Black, in images below as the output. I have checked mmsys.cpl and both monitors are configured the same way, as ste

  3. Failure in switching audio from laptop to second monitor

    Hello, CluelessCL

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

Thank you for describing the issue you're facing with switching audio output from your laptop to the second monitor via HDMI. It's essential to have a seamless experience when using external monitors. To assist you further, I'd like to gather some more specific details:

1-Can you confirm if the issue is specific to the second monitor's speakers, or does it also occur when using other audio devices, such as external speakers or headphones?

2-Have you tried different HDMI cables or tested the monitor's audio output with another device to ensure it's functioning as expected?

3-Are you using any third-party audio management software or apps that might be affecting the audio output switching behavior?

4-Have you recently made any changes to your laptop's audio settings or installed any updates that might have coincided with the time when this issue started?

Additionally, please provide the following details:

    • The make and model of your laptop.
    • The make and model of the second monitor you're using.
If possible, try the following steps and let me know the results:

    1. Restart your laptop while keeping the HDMI connection to the second monitor intact and then check if you can switch audio output.
    2. Disconnect and reconnect the HDMI cable while audio is playing on your laptop to see if this triggers the audio to switch to the monitor's speakers.
Once I have this information, I'll be able to provide you with more targeted troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue with audio output switching between your laptop and the second monitor.

Looking forward to your response so that I can assist you further.

    Best regards,

    audio is not working?

    Hello Tanzila,

Thank you for using Microsoft products and posting to the community.

I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble with your audio. Audio problems can have a variety of causes, and at this time I'd like to start with the following information in order to gain a better understanding of your situation and offer advice.

    1. I'm wondering if by audio not working you mean the audio input or audio output is not working properly? Or does it mean that both of them are not working properly?

    2. I would like to know when this started happening? Did you make any changes before that?

    3. I would like to know if the audio is not working properly when you are using external speakers or headphones? Or are you experiencing this problem using your computer's default speakers and microphone?

Alternatively, if you have not tried some of the troubleshooting steps on your own, then you can try the following basic troubleshooting steps first.

    1. Check Audio Device Connections:
      • Ensure that your audio devices (e.g., headphones, speakers) are properly connected to your computer or device. If you're using external speakers or headphones, make sure they are plugged in correctly and powered on.
    2. Audio Output/Input Selection:
      • Verify that the correct audio output/input device is selected in your system settings. In Windows, right-click the speaker icon in the system tray and select "Open Sound settings" to check the output/input device.
    3. Update Audio Drivers:
      • Outdated or incompatible audio drivers can cause audio problems. Check the manufacturer's website for your computer or sound card to download and install the latest audio drivers.
    4. Run Audio Troubleshooter (Windows):
      • In Windows, you can use the built-in audio troubleshooter to diagnose and potentially fix audio problems. Go to "Settings" > "System" > "Sound" > "Troubleshoot."
    5. Check Audio Settings in Applications:
      • Ensure that audio is not muted or set to low volume within the specific applications or media players you're using.
    6. Test with Different Audio Sources:
      • Try playing audio from different sources, such as music files, videos, online streaming, or other apps, to see if the issue is specific to one source or application.
Looking forward to hearing from you, by knowing more will help me to provide better support.

    Sincerely
