Windows 10: I have upgraded my laptop to Windows 11 and my Canon MP250 won't scan any more.

I have upgraded my laptop PC to Windows 11, after being prompted by Microsoft. Alas Canon decided to discontinue support for its MP250 printer-scanner and thus did not produce Windows 11 drivers. The Windows 10 printer driver works fine but the scanner driver seems not to be working. Anyone has any experience of this and maybe found a way to circumvent the problem with a generic scanner driver?

Canon MP495 will print but not scan after Windows 11 upgrade from Windows 10. When attempting to scan error message appears " WIA driver needed". I have downloaded the correct driver from Canon but no success. Any suggestions?

 

Laptop detects scanner but not printer

I have an old Canon MP250 multifunction printer/scanner. I haven't used it in ages.... I wanted to scan something so I plugged it in and connected it up to my laptop (running Windows 10) via USB, and had no issues - I used Windows Fax/Scan to scan a document. But when I wanted to print something, the printer is not showing up in the list of printers from any piece of software. When I go to Control Panel, Devices and Printers, I have an MP250 series scanner listed under "Devices", but not under "Printers". If I choose to add a printer, no printer is found. I downloaded the latest drivers from the Canon website and went through the installation process - which stalled at the stage where it tries to find the connected printer. Any suggestions? The black ink indicator on the printer is flashing, but surely that shouldn't prevent the printer from being found?
